Qatar Airways added 23 new destinations in 18 months: Al-Baker

Qatar Airways has added some 23 new destinations over the past 18 months, something which has never been achieved by any other airline said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar al-Baker.

This, he said, is a “key indicator of the airline’s sustainability and resilience”, al-Baker said at a global media roundtable hosted by Qatar Airways on the sidelines of the Doha Forum conference at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel.

The award-winning airline has launched 23 destinations since the start of the blockade, and continues with its significant programme of expansion of new routes to further connect passengers around the globe.

Al-Baker said: “One of the advantages Qatar Airways enjoys is having the flexibility of different aircraft types in our fleet, which gives us a massive competitive edge. We have identified many routes that our competitors have not yet considered, and we look forward to continuing our rapid expansion as we start the new year.

“A key indicator of the airline’s sustainability and resilience is the addition of 23 new destinations over the past 18 months, something which has never been achieved by any other airline. Just this month alone, Qatar Airways has launched flights to Mombasa, Kenya and Gothenburg Sweden, with services to Da Nang, Vietnam to begin on December 19.

“New routes to both Isfahan (Iran) and Valletta (Malta) have already been announced for 2019. This is further testament to our growth, and we will continue to announce further new and exciting destinations in 2019.”

Al-Baker also addressed the airline’s “proven” track record of creating a large hub in the midst of tough competition, and emphasised the tremendous potential the airline sees in launching new routes to under-served countries in Africa and Asia, to connect passengers around the world via the airline’s home and hub, HIA.

A multiple-award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was named ‘World’s Best Business Class’ by the 2018 World Airline Awards, managed by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax. It was also named ‘Best Business Class Seat’, ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’, and ‘World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge’.

Qatar national carrier’s ‘Qsuite’ business class seat was also named ‘Best Business Class’ by the AirlineRatings’ Airline Excellence Awards 2019, whilst the airline’s renowned dine-on-demand in flight cuisine was also named ‘Best Catering’.

Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of more than 200 aircraft via its state-of-the-art hub, Hamad International Airport (HIA) to some 160 destinations worldwide.

قال الباكر: «من الأمور التي تتميز بها الخطوط الجوية القطرية عن غيرها من شركات الطيران هو امتلاكها أسطول طائرات متنوعاً وحديثاً. لقد وضعنا نصب أعيننا في الفترة الماضية أهمية تدشين رحلاتنا إلى العديد من الوجهات الجديدة التي لا تصل إليها شركات الطيران المنافسة، لتمكين قاطني هذه الوجهات من السفر حول العالم، ونتطلع قدماً إلى الاستمرار في خطط التوسّع خلال العام الجديد».

وأضاف: «إن تدشين 23 وجهة جديدة على مدار الـ 18 شهراً الماضية يشكّل دليلاً على قوة وصلابة عملياتنا، ويعدّ أمراً لم تتمكن أية شركة طيران منافسة من تحقيقه. وأطلقت الخطوط الجوية القطرية في هذا الشهر فقط رحلاتها إلى كل من مومباسا في كينيا وجوتنبرج في السويد، بالإضافة إلى تدشين الرحلات إلى مدينة دا نانغ في فيتنام اعتباراً من 19 ديسمبر 2018، والإعلان مؤخراً عن إضافة كل من أصفهان في إيران وفاليتا في مالطا إلى شبكة الوجهات في عام 2019. وهذه الأمور ما هي إلا دليل آخر على نمو عمليتنا وسعينا المتواصل إلى الوصول إلى المزيد من الوجهات الجديدة في عام 2019».

مطار حمد

كما تطرّق الباكر للحديث عن مطار حمد الدولي؛ حيث وصفه بأنه مقر عمليات كبير ومميزة أثبت قدرته على مجاراة النمو السريع للخطوط الجوية القطرية. وشدّد سعادته على أهمية إطلاق رحلات الناقلة إلى وجهات جديدة وغير مخدومة بالشكل الأمثل في إفريقيا وآسيا، وتمكين قاطني هذه الوجهات من السفر حول العالم عبر مطار حمد الدولي في الدوحة.

وحازت الناقلة الوطنية لدولة قطر، مؤخراً، جائزة أفضل درجة رجال أعمال في العالم ضمن جوائز «سكاي تراكس» العالمية 2018. كما حصدت أفضل مقعد على درجة رجال الأعمال في العالم عن مقاعد «كيو سويت»، وجائزة أفضل شركة طيران في الشرق الأوسط، وجائزة أفضل صالة انتظار لمسافري الدرجة الأولى في العالم.

جوائز

وحصدت الخطوط الجوية القطرية جائزة أفضل درجة رجال أعمال، وجائزة أفضل خدمة تقديم الطعام، وذلك خلال حفل توزيع جوائز الامتياز في قطاع الطيران 2019 التابعة للموقع الإلكتروني «أيرلاين ريتينغز».
