HIA celebrates National Day in style

Hamad International Airport, in partnership with Qatar Duty Free (QDF), the airport’s award winning shopping emporium, transformed the airport terminal for one of the most celebrated days of the year — Qatar National Day.

Taking place during the busy holiday season, thousands of international passengers arriving, departing and transferring through the nation’s award-winning hub found themselves in the midst of vibrant Qatari national culture and all it has to offer, in the spirit of Qatar National Day that took place on Tuesday.

The 5-star airport’s celebration, which kicked off on December 15, continues until today, with HIA’s expansive terminal transformed with Qatar National Day festivities ranging from dazzling decorations, festive popups, eye-catching artwork, to delicious dates and coffees loved by the local Qatari culture. A true testament to HIA as a gateway to culture, the airport curated an unforgettable experience for travellers, who admired the terminal adorned with national flags, watched a live traditional Ardha dance and music performance and enjoyed shopping at a pop-up airside souq hosted by local businesses offering authentic Qatari products, which will be live until the end of the month.

Qatar Duty Free and HIA treated every traveller with a Qatar National Day gift, and offered 20% discount vouchers to all passengers between December 16 and 19, redeemable at many of the food, beverage and retail outlets. Already noted for its expansive art portfolio spread throughout the terminal by local, regional and international artists, the airport also teamed up with Ahmed al-Maadheed, the celebrated artist behind the iconic Tamim Al Majd portrait, who created artwork exclusively for the airport on this occasion.

The activation took place during one of the busiest months of the year at the airport, giving travellers the opportunity to admire the many facets of Qatar’s national identity. From taking a minute to enjoy hot Arabic coffee, or admiring live performances of national dance, travellers left HIA with a memorable experience demonstrating what Qatari hospitality is really about.

As a gateway to culture, HIA has been curating creative and inspiring experiences for its passengers. As Qatar National Day is a celebration of the country’s culture, heritage and identity as a nation, the airport engages with its travellers every year to commemorate Qatari culture.

Welcoming 9.68mn passengers in the third quarter of 2018, the bustling airport continues to demonstrate its commitment to redefining the passenger experience and engaging its travellers throughout the year. The airport was recognised at the Future Travel Experience Asia Awards last month, winning the award for ‘Best Customer Experience Initiative’ as well as by Global Traveler Reader Survey Awards as the “Best Airport in the Middle East”. HIA is also currently a candidate for the “Best Airport in the World” 2019 award by Skytrax.

أطلق مطار حمد الدولي -الحائز على تصنيف 5 نجوم- والسوق الحرة، سلسلة من الفعاليات والأنشطة احتفالاً باليوم الوطني لدولة قطر من 15 ديسمبر وتستمر حتى 20 من الشهر الحالي. وتتزامن الاحتفالات مع موسم العطلات الشتوية السنوية، فقد شهد الآلاف من المسافرين الأجواء الغامرة والمفعمة بروح اليوم الوطني الذي يوافق 18 ديسمبر، وبكل ما يستدعيه ذلك من رموز وطنية عريقة، وثقافة قطرية نابضة بالحياة. خلال فترة الاحتفال، تحول مبنى المسافرين إلى ساحة كبرى للاحتفال باليوم الوطني، بداية من التزين باللونين الأبيض والعنابي، والديكورات التراثية، والأعمال الفنية، وصولاً إلى الضيافة القطرية الأصيلة.

مطار حمد أصبح بمثابة بوابة للتعرف على الثقافة القطرية، بما يقدمه من تجربة سفر رائعة لمسافريه الذين خاضوا تجربة تسوق فريدة في سوقين أقيما خصيصاً للتعريف بالمنتجات القطرية الأصيلة، وهما يعكسان روح فن العمارة القطرية التقليدية، كما حظي المسافرون أيضاً بمشاهدة حية لرقصة العرضة الشهيرة مصحوبة بالعزف الموسيقي التراثي.

وقام مطار حمد الدولي والسوق الحرة القطرية بتوزيع هدايا اليوم الوطني على جميع المسافرين، تضم قسائم تسوق تمنح حاملها خصومات بنسبة 20% خلال الفترة ما بين 16-19 ديسمبر، في الكثير من المطاعم والمقاهي ومتاجر التجزئة المنتشرة في أنحاء المطار.

وتقدم الرئيس التنفيذي للعمليات في مطار حمد الدولي، المهندس بدر المير، بأسمى آيات التهاني والتبريكات لحضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، حفظه الله، ولصاحب السمو الأمير الوالد الشيخ حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني، وقال: نتمنى لقطر أرضاً وشعباً دوام الأمن والأمان والرخاء والرفعة في ظل قيادتنا الرشيدة، مشيراً إلى أن اليوم الوطني لقطر هو يوم عز وفخر، يحتفل فيه كل مواطن ومقيم على هذه الأرض الطيبة، مؤكداً استمرار المطار بأداء دوره بقوة، في إطار التطور والنمو الذي يشهده سنوياً، كبوابة قطر الجوية إلى العالم.

ويشتهر مطار حمد الدولي بما يضمه من مجموعة الأعمال الفنية المنتشرة في جميع أنحائه، التي تعود لكوكبة من الفنانين القطريين والعالميين، كما تعاون المطار مع الفنان القطري أحمد المعاضيد، الذي بات معروفاً بلوحته الفنية الشهيرة التي تحمل اسم: «تميم المجد»، وقد خصَّ المعاضيد المطار بأعمال فنية أخرى حصرية. وبما أن شهر ديسمبر يعد من أكثر شهور السنة ازدحاماً من حيث أعداد المسافرين عبر مطار حمد الدولي، تأتي مناسبة الاحتفال باليوم الوطني للبلاد كمناسبة يتعرف من خلالها آلاف المسافرين من مختلف الثقافات على الثقافة القطرية، والاستمتاع بمشاهدة الأنشطة والفعاليات الحية، والضيافة القطرية الأصيلة. وخلال الربع الثالث من عام 2018، استقبل مطار حمد الدولي 9.68 مليون مسافر، وحظي في وقت سابق من العام بجائزة «أفضل مبادرة في تجربة العملاء» من «فيوتشر ترافل إكسبرينس» آسيا، وجائزة «أفضل مطار في الشرق الأوسط» من مجلة جلوبال ترافلر، كما أن المطار مرشح في الوقت الحالي لجائزة أفضل مطار في العالم لعام 2019، التي تقدمها «سكاي تراكس».;
