Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker confirmed Qatar Airways’ commitment to enhancing its services in the European market.
Akbar Al Baker has further said that the support extended to Qatar and Qatar Airways by top European decision makers is truly valued and appreciated.
Al Baker met with influential European Parliament members and top decision makers of the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium.
The aim of the series of meetings and VIP dinner in the heart of Europe was to strengthen the already robust relationships that the airline enjoys with key MEPs and to demonstrate Qatar Airways’ commitment to the European Union, the world’s largest single market area.
During the visit, Akbar Al Baker held successful one-to-one meetings with MEP Ramon Tremosa; MEP Jose Ignacio Salafranca and MEP Ismail Ertug at the European Parliament in Brussels, the capital of Europe.
He also met with European Commissioner and Vice President, Maroš Šefčovič and Henrik Hololei, Director General, Mobility and Transport for the European Commission.

“We appreciate the openness and understanding demonstrated by the EU. We also thank the EU for the flexibility and support provided to the State of Qatar under the current blockade.”
During the evening, more than 16 MEPs enjoyed a VIP dinner with key note speeches in the stunning Presidential Salon at the European Parliament, with impressive views over the city of Brussels.
This visit comes at a time when Qatar and the EU are close to completing the final stage of the EU-Qatar Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement, which has offered the State of Qatar and Qatar Airways an excellent platform to engage in candid discussions with its European partners on the potential growth and future cooperation between the two parties.
With 617 weekly flights to Europe, Qatar Airways flies an average of 91,000 passengers a week to more than 50 key cities in the region. Over the last 18 months, the airline has further enhanced this by launching 15 new routes to Europe, including Nice, Dublin, Malaga, Prague and London Gatwick. Further route launches are planned in the next year including Lisbon and Valletta, which will take the total number of destinations in Europe up to 56.

جاء ذلك خلال اجتماع الباكر بمجموعة من الأعضاء البارزين من البرلمان الأوروبي، وعدد من صنّاع القرار من المفوضية الأوروبية في مدينة بروكسل، ويهدف الطرفان من خلال هذا اللقاء إلى بحث تعزيز علاقات التعاون والمزيد من التنسيق في السوق الاوروبية.
وصرح السيد أكبر الباكر، الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية قائلا “أود أن انتهز هذه الفرصة للتعبير عن تقديرنا للدعم الذي يقدمه مجموعة من كبار صنّاع القرار الأوروبيين إلى دولة قطر وإلى الخطوط الجوية القطرية”.
وأضاف أن اجتماع اليوم يأتي لإلقاء الضوء على المزيد من فرص التطور لقطاع الطيران مع التركيز على إتاحة المزيد من خيارات السفر للمسافرين، وإيجاد حلول اقتصادية طويلة الأمد، بالإضافة إلى تناول مواضيع أخرى، ولدينا ثقة بأننا سوف ننجح بإنجاز جميع هذه الأمور.
وثمن الباكر الانفتاح والتفاهم الذي أظهرته الدول الأوروبية تجاه مختلف المبادرات ، موجها الشكر للاتحاد الأوروبي على دعم دولة قطر خلال الحصار الحالي المفروض عليها.
شارك في الأمسية التي رافقت الاجتماع أكثر من 16 عضوا برلمانيا إلى جانب حضور مجموعة من كبار الشخصيات، حيث ألقى الحضور خلالها كلمات تناولوا فيها عدداً من المواضيع الرئيسية.
ويتزامن توقيت الزيارة مع قرب إنجاز المرحلة النهائية من اتفاقية النقل الجوي الشاملة بين الاتحاد الأوروبي ودولة قطر، والتي تعد منصّة مميزة لدولة قطر والخطوط الجوية القطرية للانخراط في محادثات بنّاءة مع نظرائهم الأوروبيين بخصوص مستقبل مشرق لمرحلة متكاملة من النمو والتعاون بين جميع الأطراف.
ومع 617 رحلة أسبوعياً إلى أوروبا، تحلّق الخطوط الجوية القطرية بحوالي 91 ألف مسافر أسبوعياً إلى أكثر من 50 مدينة في أوروبا.
وعلى مدار الـ18 شهرا الماضية، عززت الخطوط الجوية من شبكة وجهاتها في القارّة الأوروبية من خلال تدشين رحلاتها إلى 15 وجهة جديدة فيها، بما في ذلك نيس ودبلن وملقة وبراغ ولندن غاتويك وغيرها.
وسوف تسيّر الناقلة الوطنية لدولة قطر رحلاتها إلى المزيد من الوجهات في أوروبا خلال الفترة القادمة، بما في ذلك لشبونة وفاليتا، ليرتفع عدد الوجهات الناقلة في أوروبا إلى 56 وجهة.
وأطلقت الخطوط الجوية القطرية رحلاتها إلى مدينة بروكسل البلجيكية في شهر يناير لعام 2011 مع خمس رحلات أسبوعياً، فيما ارتفع عدد الرحلات إلى سبع رحلات أسبوعياً (رحلة يومياً) اعتباراً من شهر فبراير لعام 2018 ، وإلى ثماني رحلات أسبوعياً في شهر ديسمبر لعام 2018 على متن طائرة من طراز بوينغ 777.
