MoPH marks World Sight Day

DOHA: The Ministry of Public Health organised several events and awareness activities in the framework of the celebration of World Sight Day under the theme “Eye Care Everywhere”, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Hamad Medical Corporation and Primary Health Care Corporation.

The events and activities included examinations of visual acuity and eye, and presenting educational materials aimed at increasing the awareness of the need for care and prevention of eye diseases, in addition to providing prescriptions for patients with eye diseases, and medical glasses for those who require it.

Blindness and visual impairment are a global health problem, with some 253 million people with visual impairment worldwide, of whom 36 million are blind and 217 million are visually impaired.

The world is celebrating this day on the second Thursday of October each year to raise awareness of the international community and remind people about the need to pay attention to eye diseases and fight blindness.

نظمت وزارة الصحة العامة، مؤخراً، العديد من الفعاليات والأنشطة التوعوية في إطار الاحتفال باليوم العالمي للبصر تحت شعار «رعاية العين في كل مكان»، بالتعاون مع وزارة التعليم والتعليم العالي، ومؤسسة حمد الطبية، ومؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية، وذلك في مركز روضة الخيل الصحي وعدد من المدارس الحكومية والخاصة.

وتضمنت الفعاليات والأنشطة إجراء فحوصات لحدة البصر، والعين، وتقديم مواد تثقيفية تستهدف زيادة رفع الوعي بضرورة العناية والوقاية من أمراض العين، بالإضافة إلى تقديم الوصفات العلاجية للمصابين بأمراض العيون، والنظارات الطبية لمن تستدعى حالتهم ذلك.

يذكر أن العمى وضعف البصر يعد من المشاكل الصحية العالمية، حيث يوجد نحو 253 مليون شخص ممن يعانون من ضعف البصر في جميع أنحاء العالم، منهم 36 مليون شخص أصيبوا بالعمى و217 مليون شخص يعانون من ضعف الرؤية.;
