Katara launches Iraqi Cultural Nights

DOHA: Performance of traditional Iraqi songs and poetry highlighted the launch of “Iraqi Cultural Nights” at Katara Opera House on Saturday.

The event, held within the Iraqi Cultural week festivities, was officially opened by Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara, along with Abdelsattar Al Janabi, Chargé d’Affaires at Iraq Embassy.

Hundreds of members of the Iraqi community along with other nationalities watched the show.

The concert began with poetry reading by prominent Iraqi poet Alyaa Almalki who expressed her happiness to perform in Qatar for the first time, saying that she was looking forward to meet local poets. This was followed by a traditional music performance of Oud by Iraqi musicians and Iraqi singer Qaes Aladamy’s amazing rendition of ancient traditional songs of Baghdad preserved over centuries among traditional singers.

Another traditional Iraqi performance “Khashaba,” a Bedouin style music using special drums, was performed before an appreciative audience.

Renowned Iraqi singer Amal Khudayyer brought nostalgia to the audience with a modern performance of Iraqi songs that drew the attention of and interaction from the audience.

The concert was preceded with the opening of an art gallery by several Iraqi artists who are based in Qatar, including paintings that highlight the rich Iraqi heritage.

Janabi said that they are trying the cultural nights an annual event at Katara, while lauding the efforts exerted by Katara to make the concert happen.

افتتح سعادة الدكتور خالد بن إبراهيم السليطي -المدير العام للمؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي (كتارا)- مساء أمس الأول، أول برامج «الأمسيات الثقافية العراقية» في دار الأوبرا بـ «كتارا»، وذلك بحضور سعادة السيد عبدالستار الجنابي، القائم بأعمال السفارة العراقية في الدوحة، وعدد من أصحاب السعادة السفراء.

وسبق الحفل افتتاح معرض فني لفنانين عراقيين من أبناء الجالية العراقية في قطر، يضم أكثر من 50 لوحة فنية تجسّد الطراز العراقي التقليدي والتراث التي يزخر به.

كما شهد الحفل -الذي يُعدّ أول فعاليات الأسبوع الثقافي العراقي، ويستمر لمدة 3 أيام- حضوراً واسع النطاق من أبناء الجالية العراقية في قطر، كما جذبت الأمسية جاليات أخرى تفاعلت مع الفن العراقي الأصيل. وفي مستهل الأمسية، ألقى سعادة السيد عبدالستار الجنابي كلمة أثنى فيها على القائمين على «كتارا»؛ لتعاونهم وجهودهم الجبارة في دعم هذه الأمسية، التي استغرق الإعداد لها شهوراً.

وانطلق الحفل بقصيدة للشاعرة علياء المالكي، وتبعها عزف على آلة العود من قبل يوسف عباس، ومن ثم وصلة غنائية للفنان قيس الأعظمي، الذي غنى خلالها بعض المقامات البغدادية والأغاني التراثية العراقية.

وتلا ذلك عزف تراثي بطابع بدوي للفنان سعد اليابس وفرقة «الخشابة»، وهو نوع من الفن التقليدي الذي لا ينضبط بنوتة معينة، وتُستخدم فيه آلات موسيقية مميزة. وقد قدّمت الفنانة العراقية المخضرمة أمل خضيّر مجموعة من الأغاني التراثية العراقية، والتي لاقت تفاعلاً من جانب الجمهور المتلهف للموروث الثقافي العراقي الغني بالأهازيج الشعبية والأغاني التي لا تخفى عن الجميع.;
