Ajyal presents 81 films from 36 countries

• Programme includes 23 Features and 58 shorts; 24 of them from the Arab World; 44 by women filmmakers and 14 films supported by the Institute
• Ajyal 2018 recognises the illustrious career of Qatari actor Abdul Aziz Jassem and constitutes a new acting award in tribute as part of Made in Qatar presented by Ooredoo

Doha, Qatar; November 12, 2018: The sixth Ajyal Youth Film Festival, presented by the Doha Film Institute, will present a compelling slate of 81 films from 36 countries that express the power of storytelling to transform minds, and will inspire audiences and stimulate discussions about real and relevant issues that affect them.

The six-day event, to be held from November 28 to December 3 at Katara Cultural Village, will feature public screenings, screenings dedicated to the Ajyal jury, interactive panel discussions, red carpet events, and community-oriented activities that will delight all ages. Ajyal 2018 is expanding its public screenings beyond Katara to include screenings at Novo Cinemas in the Pearl.

This year’s Opening Night Gala of Ajyal Film Festival will present Freedom Fields (Libya, UK, USA, Netherlands, Canada, Lebanon, Qatar/2018), a powerful first film by Naziha Arebi. A recipient of the Doha Film Institute’s Grants Programme, this gutsy and inspiring documentary demonstrates how courage can overcome cultural and societal stereotypes in the pursuit of dreams. The film takes audiences on an inspiring journey through the ups and downs of three women’s efforts to build a football team in post-revolution Libya, even as the country descends into civil war. It is also timely in that Ajyal presents the film during the symbolic handover year of the World Cup from Russia to Qatar.

2018 PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS

Drawn from distinctive milieus from around the world, Ajyal Film Festival continues to showcase directors of all backgrounds and stages of their careers, the diverse programme consists of 23 features and 58 shorts, including 24 from the Arab World and 44 by women filmmakers. The programme includes festival favourites and award winners such as the Cannes Jury Prize Winning Capharnaüm by Nadine Labaki; Berlinale Amnesty International Film Prize Winner Central Airport THF by Karim Ainouz; Sundance winner The Price of Free by Derek Doneen and festival favourites 3 Faces by Jafar Panahi and anime feature Mirai by acclaimed director Mamoru Hosada.

Ajyal 2018 brings back the inclusive cinema experience with Naji Abu Nowar’s Theeb, a DFI-supported film that won the BAFTA for Outstanding Debut and was Oscar® nominated in 2016 for Best Foreign Language Film, to celebrate UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The special ‘trans-adapted’ screening is presented in collaboration with the Translation and Interpreting Institute of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad bin Khalifa University.

Film lovers will be immersed in the interesting and essential cinematic artform of short films with an eclectic programme of 58 films from across the globe.

TRIBUTE and MADE IN QATAR

Ajyal 2018 pays tribute to national icon, renowned Qatari actor and extraordinary individual Abdul Aziz Jassem with the Abdul Aziz Jassem Award for acting, as part of the Made in Qatar awards.

The 2018 Made in Qatar programme presented by Ooredoo comprises 16 inspiring films, including the world premieres of next completed projects from the Qatari Film Fund recipients, Mahdi Ali Ali’s Amphitheatre, Amal Al Muftah’s Sh’hab, Nasser Goes to Space by Mohamed Al Mahmeed and Naif Al Malki I Am Not My Father, shining the spotlight on Qatari talents and presenting our stories to the world.

 Ajyal 2018 is proud to welcome to Qatar some of the key personalities in films, arts and humanity; Director Nadine Labaki, Producer and music composer Khaled Mouzanar, Artist El Seed, Actors Tom Felton, Evangeline Lilly, Tuba Unsal, Engin Altan Duzyatan, Bulent Inal and Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi among others.

DFI SUPPORTED FILMS

Ajyal 2018 will also screen 14 films supported by the Institute through its Grants programme, co-financing, Qatari Film Fund or projects mentored through its labs and workshops. These include: What Walaa Wants; The Man Who Stole Banksy; Weldi; Capharnaum among others.

JURY HIGHLIGHTS

The Jury Competition line-up at Ajyal 2018 will consist of 13 feature films and a series of short programmes. This year, we have over 550 jurors from 55 nationalities including 25 international jurors who will travel to Doha for the event from Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

They will watch diversely curated sections – Mohaq, Hilal, and Bader, discuss the films collectively and with industry experts, evaluate the individual creative and emotional impact of these films and participate in events including panels, workshops and Q&A sessions with filmmakers.

CREATIVITY HUB

While Ajyal is a celebration of films from all over the world, Ajyal Creativity Hub presents a vibrant programme of cultural and creative activities which includes Qatar’s largest pop-culture event Geekdom – a hub for the community to come together and relive their childhood memories through music, games, competitions, talks and films; and Ajyal Talks – that gathers leaders from film, art, television and technology for inspiring and insightful discussions on a broad range of social impact topics.

أعلنت مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام اليوم، عن فعاليات الدورة السادسة من مهرجان أجيال السينمائي، والذي يقام خلال الفترة من 28 نوفمبر الجاري وحتى 3 ديسمبر المقبل في الحي الثقافي “كتارا”.

وأوضحت السيدة فاطمة الرميحي الرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام ومديرة مهرجان أجيال السينمائي خلال مؤتمر صحفي بـ”كتارا”، أن المهرجان سيعرض على مدار ستة أيام مجموعة من 81 فيماً من 36 بلداً تعبر عن قوة وتأثير الأفلام في تشكيل المفاهيم والأفكار وتلهم الجمهور من كافة الأعمار وتشجع على الحوار والنقاش حول قضايا مهمة تؤثر على عالمنا اليوم، مشيرة إلى أن افتتاح المهرجان سيكون بعرض فيلم “ملاعب الحرية” من إنتاج ليبيا، المملكة المتحدة، الولايات المتحدة، هولندا، كندا، لبنان، قطر/2018) للمخرجة نزيهة عريبي، فضلا عن حلقات نقاشية تفاعلية ومراسم السجادة الحمراء وأنشطة موجهة للمجتمع تناسب جميع الأعمار. كما يوفر المهرجان فرصة سانحة لعشاق السينما لمشاهدة الأفلام في خارج “كتارا” بـ(اللؤلؤة قطر).

وحصل فيلم “ملاعب الحرية” على دعم من برنامج المنح بمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام ويظهر كيف يمكن للشجاعة التغلب على العوائق الثقافية والصور النمطية في المجتمع بهدف تحقيق الأحلام والتطلعات.

ويحكي قصة الأمل والتضحية في بلد تعد الأحلام فيه ضرباً من الترف، ويتتبع مسيرة ثلاث سيدات وجهودهن لتشكيل فريق كرة قدم للسيدات في ليبيا ما بعد الثورة.

كما يأتي هذا الفيلم في الوقت الذي تسلمت فيه قطر راية كأس العالم من روسيا حيث تستضيف البطولة القادمة عام 2022 على أراضيها.

وأبرزت الرميحي، أن مهرجان أجيال السينمائي، يقدم أفلاماً تعكس مختلف الثقافات المتنوعة في العالم ويواصل عرض أعمال مخرجين يتمتعون بمسيرات مهنية مختلفة، حيث يضم البرنامج 23 فيلماً طويلاً و 58 فيلماً قصيراً من ضمنها 24 فيلماً من العالم العربي و44 فيلماً لمخرجات نساء. ومن بين هذه الأفلام يضم البرنامج أفلاماً مفضلة لدى الجمهور وأخرى فازت بجوائز قيمة منها فيلم “كفرناحوم” لنادين لبكي الفائز بجائزة التحكيم الكبرى في مهرجان كان السينمائي، وفيلم “مطار تمبلهوف المركزي” للمخرج كريم عينوز الفائز بجائزة أمنستي الدولية في مهرجان برلين السينمائي، وفيلم “بلا ثمن” للمخرج ديريك دونين الفائز بجائزة مهرجان صندانس، بالإضافة إلى الأفلام المفضلة لدى الجماهير منها فيلم “ثلاثة وجوه” للمخرج جعفر بناهي وفيلم الرسوم المتحركة “ميراج” للمخرج مامارو هوسادا.

وكشفت أن المهرجان في نسخته السادسة، سيكرم الفنان القطري الراحل عبد العزيز جاسم، كما ستقدم “جائزة عبدالعزيز جاسم للتمثيل” ضمن برنامج “صنع في قطر”.

ويضم برنامج صنع في قطر 2018، من تقديم شركة أوريدو، 16 فيلماً ملهماً من ضمنها العروض العالمية الأولى لأفلام أنجزت مؤخراً بعد أن حصلت على منح من صندوق الفيلم القطري.

واحتفالاً بيوم الأمم المتحدة العالمي للأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة، يواصل مهرجان أجيال السينمائي عرض تجربة سينمائية فريدة في العالم تعتمد على الترجمة الإثرائية والوصف السمعي البصري، حيث يقدم في هذه الدورة فيلم “ذيب” للمخرج ناجي أبو نوار، الحاصل على دعم مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام كما رشح لجائزة أوسكار أفضل فيلم بلغة أجنبية في عام 2016 وفاز بجائزة بافتا في فئة أول عمل لمخرج.

ومن المرتقب أن يتم تقديم الفيلم بعرض يعتمد الترجمة الإثرائية والوصف السمعي البصري بالتعاون مع معهد دراسات الترجمة بكلية العلوم الإنسانية والدراسات الاجتماعية في جامعة حمد بن خليفة.

كما يمكن للجمهور متابعة مجموعة واسعة من 58 فيلماً قصيراَ من مختلف أرجاء العالم تؤكد على أهمية ومكانة هذا النمط من الأفلام.

من جهة أخرى، سيعرف مهرجان أجيال السينمائي السادس، حضور عدد من الشخصيات السينمائية المميزة في السينما والفن والأعمال الإنسانية من ضمنهم المخرجة نادين لبكي، والمنتج والمؤلف الموسيقي خالد مزنر، الفنان إل سيد، الممثلون توم فلتون، إيفانجلين ليلي، توبا أونسال، إنجين ألتان دوزياتان، بولنت إنال والفائز بجائزة نوبل للسلام كايلاس ساتيارثي.

كما يعرض مهرجان أجيال في هذه الدورة 14 فيلماً حصلت على دعم المؤسسة من خلال برنامج المنح والتمويل المشترك (صندوق الفيلم القطري) أو صنعت بإشراف وتوجيه من البرامج المختلفة وورش العمل. ومن هذه الأفلام “ما تريده ولاء”، “الرجل الذي سرق بانكسي”، “ولدي”، كفرناحوم” وغيرها.

وتضم المسابقة الرسمية لمهرجان أجيال السينمائي في هذا العام 13 فيلماً طويلاً ومجموعة من الأفلام القصيرة، حيث تضم لجان التحكيم 550 حكماً من 55 بلداً من ضمنهم 25 حكماً دولياً يحضرون من أرمينيا، البوسنة والهرسك، جورجيا، العراق، إيطاليا، الأردن، روسيا، المكسيك، عمان، تونس، تركيا، المملكة المتحدة.

وسيشاهد الحكام أفلاماً في ثلاثة أقسام هي محاق وهلال وبدر حيث يناقشون الأفلام بشكل جماعي مع الخبراء والسينمائيين ويقيمون العناصر الإبداعية فيها ومدى تأثيرها على المشاهدين كما يشارك الحكام في حلقات نقاشية وورش عمل وجلسات حوارية مع صناع الأفلام.

من جهتها، أشارت روضة آل ثاني، مساعدة برمجة الأفلام في المؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، أن جمهور مهرجان أجيال السينمائي، سيستكشف أفلاما تعكس احتياجات الجميع، وأفلاما أخرى فازت بجوائز عالمية، فضلا عن أفلام لمواهب سينمائية صاعدة من روسيا من بينها فيلم “الغميضة” وذلك إثراء للعام الثقافي “قطرـ روسيا 2018″، بالإضافة إلى عروض لأفلام عائلية، أبرزها فيلم “النحلة مايا”.

من جهته، قدم السيد عبدالله المسلم، رئيس الشؤون الإدارية بمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، ونائب مدير مهرجان أجيال السينمائي الفعاليات الثقافية والترفيهية المصاحبة للمهرجان وهي معرض “جيكدوم (ركن الهواة)”، حيث يقدم فضاء رحبا لأفراد المجتمع لاستعادة ذكريات الطفولة من خلال الموسيقى والألعاب والمسابقات والحوارات وعروض الأفلام. كما يقدم المركز منبر أجيال الذي يجمع القادة والشخصيات المؤثرة في مجالات السينما والفن والتلفزيون والتكنولوجيا حيث يشاركون في نقاشات ملهمة وعميقة حول عدد من القضايا والمواضيع ذات التأثير الاجتماعي.

جدير بالذكر، أن مهرجان أجيال السينمائي، احتفال سنوي بالأفلام صُمّم لتنمية عقول الشباب ودعم بناء مواطنين عالميين يتمتعون بالوعي والمعرفة ليشكلوا قادة المستقبل وذلك ضمن بيئة تعليمية وإبداعية.

يجمع مهرجان أجيال السينمائي الناس من مختلف الأعمار لمشاهدة العروض والمشاركة في الفعاليات التي تلهم التفاعل الإبداعي وتحفز الحوار حول السينما. ومن خلال برامج الحكام التي تجمع الصغار والشباب من عمر 8 إلى 21 عاماً، يحظى هؤلاء بفرصة مشاهدة ومناقشة وتحليل الأفلام والثقافات العالمية، فيطورون بذلك قيم الثقة بالنفس ومهارات التفكير النقدي المستقل وحرية التعبير عن الذات ويرفعون من مستوى ذائقتهم السينمائية.
