Qatar Museums announces new exhibitions in the upcoming autumn

Doha: Qatar Museums, the prominent institution for arts and culture in the country, has announced its Autumn 2023 exhibition program, which will commence in September. The program will showcase a diverse range of artists, cultures, and arts from around the world. The exhibitions will be presented as part of the Qatar Creates initiative, the national cultural initiative that runs throughout the year, sponsoring and promoting cultural activities in Qatar and celebrating its diversity. Several exhibitions will be inaugurated alongside the Qatar Creates Week in October.
The exhibitions, presented in museums, galleries, and cultural centers across Doha, include “The Present: The Future of the Past,” scheduled from August 30th to December 16th, 2023; “Furniture Design Masterpieces,” running from September 8th to December 9th, 2023; “A Path Through Time: Art and Ancestors in Oceania – Metropolitan Museum of Art,” taking place from October 24th, 2023, to January 25th, 2024, at the Qatar National Museum; “Coffee in Qatar and Kopi in Indonesia: A Story of Production and Taste,” organized as part of the Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Cultural Year, running from October 24th to February 17th, 2024.
The exhibitions also include “Dan Flavin | Donald Judd: Doha,” held at Qatar Museums Gallery, Al-Riwaq, from October 25th, 2023, to February 24th, 2024; “Elegance of the Empire: Safavid Textiles from Iran,” from October 25th to April 20th, 2024; “Building Meanings,” from October 26th to February 17th, 2024; “The Postal Box Project: Cities Under Quarantine,” from October 26th to March 5th, 2024; “Mahdi Mattar: Confrontation through Divination,” from October 26th, 2023, to March 5th, 2024; and “Condensed Lessons: Abstraction in Arab Modernity,” from October 26th, 2023, to March 5th, 2024. Additionally, the exhibition “Mal Lawal 4” will be held from December 20th, 2023, to January 2024 at the Qatar National Museum.
The exhibition, which takes place every two years, invites collectors in Qatar, the region, and around the world to showcase their personal collections and share their stories with the public. Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, launched the “Mal Lawal” exhibition series with the aim of showcasing local heritage and providing an opportunity to explore private collections and collecting practices in the region. This edition of “Mal Lawal” focuses on the 1990s and adopts a museum approach to explore the history of video games, characterized by advanced graphics skills that led to a significant leap in the world of gaming. The exhibition aims to shed light on how local collectors preserve memories of this important period in video game history through their collections, which reflect the rising popularity of home video game consoles during that time.

الدوحة: متاحف قطر تعلن عن معارض جديدة في الخريف القادم أعلنت متاحف قطر، المؤسسة الأبرز للفنون والثقافة في البلاد، عن برنامج معارض خريف 2023، الذي يبدأ نشاطه في سبتمبر المقبل، ويستعرض باقة متنوعة من الفنانين والثقافات والفنون على مستوى العالم. وسيتم تقديم برنامج المعارض في إطار مبادرة قطر تُبدع، المبادرة الثقافية الوطنية التي تستمر فعالياتها على مدار العام والتي ترعى وتروج للأنشطة الثقافية في قطر وتحتفي بتنوعها، مع افتتاح العديد من المعارض على هامش أسبوع قطر تُبدِع في أكتوبر.
وتشمل المعارض، المقدمة في المتاحف والمعارض والمراكز الثقافية في جميع أنحاء الدوحة، معرض «الحاضر: مستقبل الأمس»، ويقام خلال الفترة من 30 أغسطس الى 16 ديسمبر 2023، و»روائع فن تصميم الأثاث» 8 سبتمبر الى 9 ديسمبر المقبلين، و»مسار الزمن: الفن والأجداد في أوقيانوسيا – متحف المتروبوليتان للفنون» 24 أكتوبر الى غاية 25 يناير 2024، ويقام في متحف قطر الوطني، و»القهوة في قطر والكوبي في إندونيسيا: قصة إنتاج ومذاق»، ويُنظَّم في إطار العام الثقافي قطر – إندونيسيا 2023، خلال الفترة من 24 أكتوبر الى 17 فبراير المقبلين.
كما تشمل المعارض، «دان فلافن | دونالد جَد: الدوحة»، ويقام في جاليري متاحف قطر – الرواق في الفترة من 25 أكتوبر 2023 الى 24 فبراير 2024، و»أناقة إمبراطورية: منسوجات من إيران الصفوية» في الفترة من 25 أكتوبر الى 20 أبريل المقبلين، ومعرض «بناء المعاني» من 26 أكتوبر الى 17 فبراير المقبلين، و»مشروع صندوق البريد: مدن تحت الحجر» في الفترة من 26 أكتوبر الى 5 مارس المقبلين، و»مهدي مطشر: المواجهة عبر الاستبطان» من 26 أكتوبر 2023 الى 5 مارس 2024، و»دروس مُختَزَلة: التجريد في الحداثة العربية» في الفترة من 26 أكتوبر 2023 الى 5 مارس 2024، أما معرض «مال لوَّل 4» فسيقام في الفترة من 20 ديسمبر 2023 الى يناير 2024 بمتحف قطر الوطني.
ودعا المعرض الذي يُنظَّم كل عامين جامعي المقتنيات في قطر والمنطقة وحول العالم إلى عرض مقتنيات من مجموعاتهم الشخصية ومشاركة قصصها مع الجمهور.
وكانت سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني، رئيس مجلس أمناء متاحف قطر، أطلقت سلسلة معارض «مال لوَّل» بهدف عرض التراث المحلي وإتاحة الفرصة للاطلاع على المجموعات الخاصة، وممارسة الاقتناء في المنطقة. وتركز هذه النسخة من «مال لوَّل» على فترة التسعينات، وتتبنى نهجاً متحفياً يستكشف تاريخ ألعاب الفيديو، الذي يتميز بظهور مهارات متقدمة في الرسومات أدت إلى قفزة ملحوظة في عالم الألعاب، ويهدف المعرض إلى تسليط الضوء على كيفية حفظ المقتنين المحليين لذكريات هذه الفترة الهامة في تاريخ ألعاب الفيديو من خلال مجموعاتهم التي تعكس الارتفاع المتزايد في شعبية أجهزة ألعاب الفيديو المنزلية خلال تلك الفترة.
