SC highlights workers’ welfare progress at London rights conferences

London: The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) has continued to inform the international community of its efforts in the area of worker care and its role in bringing about positive social changes in this regard through its participation in two recent conferences in the United Kingdom.

A delegation from the labor welfare department of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, headed by Mahmoud Qutub, the SCs Executive Director of the Workers Welfare Department, participated in the conference, in the presence of experts and specialists from companies representing various sectors in the UK, where issues and matters related to workers’ rights in the modern era, and ways of protecting them were discussed.

During two presentations in London last week, Mahmoud Qutub addressed UK industry experts attempting to tackle modern day slavery and the civil society members supporting these efforts, QNA reported.

Qutub said: “We have made concrete steps to address a number of crucial issues, including but not limited to ethical recruitment, health and safety, amplifying our workers voices and using innovation to enhance the lives of our workers. Its important to share our progress with industry peers in order to showcase the impact that an event such as the World Cup can have on the welfare of workers.”

He said: “Events such as these help shine a light on complex global issues and allow us to gain insight from one another to make a meaningful impact.

Both events brought together a range of UK-based and international companies from a diverse range of industries joined by key stakeholders to discuss various issues relating to tackling modern day slavery and protecting the rights of workers.

The SC received positive feedback during both conferences after highlighting the success of the SCs grievance mechanisms including workers welfare forums and hotline, and to showcase key initiatives such as the deployment of innovative cooling technology across SC projects, the Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar nutrition programme, the extensive health and safety training carried out with Qatar International Safety Centre, and the introduction of digitised medical records across SC sites and accommodations.

شارك وفد من إدارة رعاية العمال باللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث، في مؤتمرين عُقدا، مؤخراً، في المملكة المتحدة، للحديث عن جهود اللجنة في مجال رعاية العمال، ودورها في إحداث تغييرات اجتماعية إيجابية ملموسة في هذا الصدد. حضر المؤتمرين خبراء ومتخصصون من شركات تمثل مختلف القطاعات في المملكة المتحدة، بالإضافة إلى حضور ممثلين عن شركاء وباحثين لمناقشة مختلف القضايا والشؤون ذات الصلة بحقوق العمال في العصر الحديث، وطرق حمايتها.

وقد ترأس وفد إدارة رعاية العمال باللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث خلال «المؤتمر الرابع حول العبودية الحديثة وحقوق الإنسان في شركات التوريد»، ومؤتمر «الذكرى السنوية العشرون لمنظمة مهندسون ضد الفقر»، السيد محمود قطب، المدير التنفيذي للإدارة وكبير مستشاري المشاريع الخاصة باللجنة.

وقد تلقت اللجنة العليا ردود فعل إيجابية أشادت بجهودها ومبادراتها، خاصة المتعلقة بآليات التظلم، ومنتديات رعاية العمال، والخط الساخن الخاص بشكاوى العمال، واستخدام تقنية التبريد المبتكرة في استادات بطولة قطر 2022، ومبادرة رفع مستوى الوعي الصحي والغذائي للعمال بالتعاون مع كلية طب وايل كورنيل في قطر، وورشة التدريب المكثفة بالتعاون مع مركز قطر الدولي للسلامة، بالإضافة إلى إطلاق سجلات صحية إلكترونية للعمال في مواقع مشاريع بطولة قطر 2022، وأماكن إقامتهم.

وعن أهمية مشاركة «الإرث» في مثل هذه المؤتمرات، قال محمود قطب، المدير التنفيذي للإدارة وكبير مستشاري المشاريع الخاصة باللجنة: «تعتبر هذه المؤتمرات العالمية منصة معلوماتية تُتيح للمؤسسات والهيئات ذات الصلة بحقوق العمال، فرصة قيمة لتبادل أحدث المعلومات والمستجدات المتعلقة بقضايا عالمية مُلحة ومعقدة كقضية رعاية العمال، علاوة على أهميتها في تعزيز التعاون، لإيجاد حلول فعالة، واتخاذ خطوات حقيقية إزاء التحديات التي قد تواجهها».

وأضاف: «تأتي مشاركتنا في هذين المؤتمرين انطلاقاً من إيمان (الإرث) بأهمية تعريف المجتمع الدولي بتجربتها الناجحة في مجال رعاية العمال، من خلال تسليط الضوء على دور مونديال 2022 في إحداث تغييرات إيجابية في هذا الصدد».

وأشار قطب -خلال كلمته- إلى جهود إدارة رعاية العمال في تحسين حياة العمال طوال فترة عملهم في مشاريع المونديال، وقال: «نجحت (الإرث) -بما لا يدع مجالاً للشك- في اتخاذ خطوات عملية في مجال رعاية العمال، منها على سبيل المثال لا الحصر: التوظيف الأخلاقي، وإطلاق مبادرات لتعزيز صحة العمال وتأمين سلامتهم، وأخرى للاستماع لآرائهم ومقترحاتهم وشكاويهم، بالإضافة إلى توظيف التكنولوجيا بشكل مبتكر لتحسين حياة حياتهم».;
