Qatar Foundation launches teaching forum

DOHA: The fifth annual Teaching and Learning Forum was attended by Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation (QF) H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani yesterday which was organised by the Education Development Institute (EDI), part of QF’s Pre-University Education (PUE).

Over 1,500 teachers, education leaders and policy makers from across Qatar and the region attended the forum, which aims to showcase the most dynamic, innovative, and effective presentations and workshops from top international education professionals. The forum, sponsored by ExxonMobil Qatar, was designed to inspire and motivate teachers to reach for the highest level of student engagement and achievement. It featured international experts, motivational speakers, and authors in the field of education.

The keynote speaker, Steve Francis, Creator of Happy Schools, discussed a programme aimed at boosting staff morale and reducing teacher stress during his keynote speech at the opening session. The forum falls under QF’s year-round professional development programme, and is designed to provide educators with the opportunity to share knowledge and discuss industry issues, while enhancing the education system by empowering teachers.

Buthaina Ali Al Nuaimi, President, PUE, said: “The forum is a promising opportunity that evokes our responsibility to empower future generations, to value the role of the educator, to foster a culture of innovation, and to invest in a better future.”

The forum saw experts in the fields of education and medicine provide their insights in several panel discussions, including a discussion on building inclusive systems within schools. It also featured presentations from more than 60 schools and organisations from across the region, including teachers from QF and other local schools, bringing together a diverse range of experiences and innovation led practice.

Joanna Moe, Assistant Director for Teaching & Learning at EDI told The Peninsula: “The aim of the forum is to get all of the educators together and discuss professionally different issues of education and this year’s theme is engagement”.

“Students and parents’ voice is the new dimension this year which will help teachers to understand how to engage students more. 54 countries are being represented in the Forum. The international mix is the valuable aspect of the Forum. This year we have more than 120 presenters from which only 34 belong to Qatar Foundation and rest of them are coming from local and international schools,” Joanna added.

Francis said: “Teachers play a vital role in society and have a huge impact on student learning. While teaching can be very rewarding, it can also be very demanding. Many teachers around the world feel stressed, unappreciated, and frustrated. It’s important that parents and staff in schools work together for the benefit of the student. To help teachers to be at the top of their game, teacher wellbeing and engagement are important factors in school effectiveness.”

The forum is a key element of EDI’s mission to lead professional learning and development, support curriculum improvement, and build leadership capacity to improve student outcomes in Pre-K-12 education.

أطلقت مؤسسة قطر، بحضور سعادة الشيخة هند بنت حمد آل ثاني، نائب رئيس مجلس الإدارة والرئيس التنفيذي للمؤسسة، أمس، بمركز قطر الوطني للمؤتمرات، المنتدى الخامس للتعليم والتعلم، وقد تولَّى معهد التطوير التربوي (EDI) التابع للتعليم ما قبل الجامعي (PUE) بمؤسسة قطر مهمة تنظيم هذا الحدث.

يهدف منتدى هذا العام الذي ترعاه شركة «إكسون موبيل» في قطر إلى تسليط الضَّوْء على العروض التّقديمية، وورش العمل الأكثر ديناميكية وابتكاراً، ويُمثل فعالية لأبرز خبراء التعليم الدوليين، وذلك بحضور أكثر من 1500 معلّم وخبير تربوي، وصانع سياسات. ويندرج منتدى التعليم والتعلم، ضمن إطار برنامج التطوير المهني على مدار العام لمؤسسة قطر، وهو مصمَّم لتوفير الفرصة للمعلِّمين، لتبادل المعرفة، ومناقشة قضايا العصر وتحدياته، مع تعزيز نظام التعليم من خلال تمكين المعلمين.

وقالت السيدة بثينة النعيمي، رئيس التعليم ما قبل الجامعي: «يُشكل منتدى التعليم والتعلم فرصة واعدةً؛ لاستحضار المسؤولية المُلْقاة على عاتقنا في تمكين الأجيال المقبلة، وتثمين دور المعلّم، وتبني ثقافة الابتكار، والاستثمار في المستقبل. وهو مناسبة نُجدد خلالها التزامنا بمبادئنا وأهدافنا المُشتركة كأسرة واحدة؛ ما يقوّي عزيمتنا للعمل مَعًا؛ لبناء مُستقبل مستدام قائم على المعرفة». كما شهد منتدى هذا العام مجموعة من ورش العمل لأكثر من 60 مدرسة ومؤسسة من شتى أرجاء الدولة، قدَّمها نخبة من معلّمي مؤسسة قطر، ومعلمي مدارس القطاعين: الحكومي والخاص، لمشاركة الخبرات والممارسات الإبداعية. وقال السيد ستيف فرانسيس، مبتكر برنامج المدرسة السعيدة: «يلعب المعلمون دوراً حيوياً في المجتمع، ومن الواضح أن لهم تأثيراً كبيراً في تسهيل عملية التعلم لدى الطالب، فالتعليم يمكنه أن يكون مجزياً للغاية وقد يكون أيضاً صعب المنال».

وقال السيد أليستر روتليدج، رئيس ومدير عام «إكسون موبيل قطر»: «يستحدث المعلمون المتميزون، كل يوم، فرصاً لطلابهم لطرح الأسئلة وتحليل المعلومات، ليصبحوا مفكرين مبدعين، فهم يضعون اللبنة الأساسية لدعم وتعزيز مستقبل مستدام ومزدهر.;
