New winter vegetable market to open in Al Shamal on Thursday

DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by Agricultural Affairs Department is preparing to open the fourth winter vegetable market in Al Shamal on Thursday offering farm fresh vegetables at attractive prices.

“The new market will serve as another platform to market local agricultural produce offering fresh vegetables to the customers straight from the local farms without brokers or middlemen,” Yusuf Khalid Al Khulaifi, Director of Agriculture Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment told The Peninsula on the sidelines a recent Ministry’s event.

The existing three seasonal winter vegetable markets run by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment at Al Mazrouah (Near Umm Salal), Al Khor-Dhakhira and Al Wakrah are also expected to reopen for this season bringing products of agricultural farms.

Yusuf Khalid Al Khulaifi (below), Director of Agriculture Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, said that agricultural produce in Qatar achieved great leap last season due to support of government and initiatives taken by local farmers to increase the productions which assumed importance after the blockade.

“We expect more production this season. The government has earmarked QR105m to support the producers of local food products. A big portion of the allocated amount will be spent on local farms to provide them necessary materials including shaded farms, seeds, pesticides, fertilisers and boxes for marketing the products among many more,” said Al Khulaifi.

He said that all necessary steps were taken in the last season and more efforts will be made this season to increase the production. “We did not achieve the maximum production targets last year but defiantly the self-sufficiency rate will increase remarkably this season,” he added.

He said that the efforts to address existing obstacles in agricultural field had caused major breakthrough in agricultural production in the country, where the production of local vegetables had increased from about 50,000 tonnes during the year before the blockade to about 65,000 tonnes after the blockade, which is an increase of 30 percent.

He said that the Ministry of Municipality and Environment is preparing a list of the farmers, the beneficiaries of the allocated fund, which will be announced soon.

أعلنت وزارة البلدية والبيئة، عبر حسابها الرسمي بموقع التواصل الاجتماعي «تويتر»، عن موعد انطلاق الموسم الجديد لساحات المنتج الزراعي المحلي والتي تفتح أبوابها للجمهور الخميس المقبل.

وأوضحت الوزارة أن 4 ساحات في الشمال والخور والذخيرة والوكرة والمزروعة، سوف تفتح أبوابها أمام الجمهور لثلاثة أيام أسبوعياً، في أيام الخميس والجمعة والسبت، اعتباراً من السابعة صباحاً وحتى الخامسة مساءً.

واستعدت المزارع المشاركة بساحات المنتج الزراعي القطري استعداداً خاصاً لهذا الموسم، والذي سوف يشهد عرضاً كبيراً ومتميزاً لتشكيلة واسعة من الخضراوات المحلية القطرية، متضمنة منتجات البيوت المحمية، والخضراوات المنتجة بأسلوب الزراعات المائية، والتي تتصف بالجودة العالية، فضلاً عن الخضراوات القطرية العضوية، والتي تلقى قبولاً كبيراً من المستهلكين، لارتفاع جودتها، وانخفاض أسعارها، كما سيتم خلال هذا الموسم توفير المنتجات الزراعية المحلية الأخرى مثل عسل النحل، الدهن القطري، الألبان القطرية، البيض البلدي القطري، الأسماك القطرية، وذلك لتغطية احتياجات المستهلكين من المنتجات الزراعية القطرية عالية الجودة، وسوف يتم عرض المنتجات الزراعية القطرية بأسعار مناسبة، وأقل بشكل كبير وواضح من نظيرتها بالسوق الخارجي، بالإضافة إلى قيام بعض الشركات المشاركة بالساحات بعرض تشكيلة كبيرة من الفاكهة الطازجة بأسعار مناسبة لخدمة المستهلكين بالساحات.

جدير بالذكر، أن وزارة البلدية والبيئة أنجزت ثلاث ساحات جديدة في مناطق (الشمال، ومعيذر، والشيحانية) سوف تفتح أبوابها هذا الموسم ليبلغ عدد ساحات المنتج الزراعي 6 تغطي معظم المناطق بالدولة.
