Msheireb Museums wins Best Educational Practice Program award

DOHA: Msheireb Museums won the ‘Best Educational Practice Program’ award by the International Committee for Education and Cultural Action (CECA) during the CECA conference and awards, held in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The Committee for Education and Cultural Action is one of the oldest International Committees of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), and with over 1,000 members from 85 countries, CECA is also one of its largest.

Members are professionals working in different sectors of the museum field or institutions related to museums; as educators, curators, professors, communication agents or interpreters, interested in education and cultural action applied to a particular sort of heritage.

The ‘Best Educational Practice Program’ award explores a range of creative practices in museums that support CECA’s main message of enriching educational and cultural applied actions. It is an award granted to five participants with five different practical projects that explore their own individual heritage.

Msheireb Museums’ winning project, Bin Jelmood educational programme, introduces the story of Bin Jelmood House in an effective and engaging way, using innovative methods to reach a young target audience. The Bin Jelmood House, which tells the story of slavery and how it has evolved into modern forms of human exploitation, is one of four historic heritage houses that make up Msheireb Museums.

Commenting on Msheireb’s participation, Milene Chiovatto- President of CECA said: “Congratulations to Msheireb Museums for being a star in our award ceremonies for best practices in CECA. We are honoured to have them represented this year.”

Commenting on the Award, Sheikha Moza Al Thani, Education Officer at Msheireb Museums said: “This year, I am honoured to have been one of the awarded participants for the Bin Jelmood House educational programme and activity collateral.

The booklet that was recognized by ICOM jury members, introduces students aged 8 to12 to the history of slavery in Qatar. It took a lot of hard work to produce, and I am very proud that it has been recognized by such an esteemed organization.”

In addition to the winning educational programme, Msheireb Museums, in collaboration with the University College of London – Qatar (UCL-Q), presented at the conference, a research paper titled “When a University and Museum Work Together”, which outlined the successful series of UCL-Q Masters in Museum Studies students’ exhibitions hosted in Msheireb Museums.

“We always look forward to working with UCL-Q and various educational institutions to develop community led exhibitions that offer an exciting and insightful perspective on Qatar’s heritage and social history”, added Fahad Al-Turky, Exhibitions Manager at Msheireb Museums.

Since Msheireb Museums opened in 2015, it has a record of hosting exhibitions and conferences that raise awareness on various cultural topics that support the cultural scene in Qatar.

This year Msheireb Museums celebrated International Museum Day by hosting workshops, presentations and a panel discussion in collaboration with CECA.

فازت متاحف مشيرب، الوجهة الثقافية في مشيرب قلب الدوحة، بجائزة أفضل برنامج للممارسات التعليمية التي تمنحها لجنة المتاحف الدولية للأنشطة التعليمية والثقافية، وذلك خلال المؤتمر الخاص بتوزيع جوائز اللجنة، والذي أقيم مؤخراً في العاصمة الجورجية تبليسي.

وتعد لجنة المتاحف الدولية للأنشطة التعليمية والثقافية إحدى أعرق اللجان الدولية التابعة للمجلس الدولي للمتاحف الذي يضم أكثر من ألف عضو من 85 دولة، وتعد هذه اللجنة من أكبر اللجان.

وتمنح جائزة «أفضل برنامج للممارسات التعليمية» إلى المؤسسة التي تقدم ممارسات إبداعية في المتاحف، وتدعم الرسائل الرئيسية للجنة الدولية المتعلقة بإثراء الأنشطة التعليمية والثقافية. وتقدم الجائزة إلى 5 مشاركين في 5 مشاريع عملية مختلفة تستكشف التراث الخاص بكل جانب.

وفاز البرنامج التعليمي في بيت بن جلمود، أحد البيوت التراثية الأربعة في متاحف مشيرب، بجائزة «أفضل الممارسات التعليمية» بفضل تقديمه قصة بيت بن جلمود بطريقة إبداعية وتفاعلية، من خلال استخدام وسائل مبتكرة للتواصل مع مختلف شرائح المجتمع وخصوصاً الشباب والصغار.

وأعرب السيد حافظ علي رئيس متاحف مشيرب، عن فخر متاحف مشيرب بفوز مبادرتها التعليمية بهذه الجائزة الدولية، متطلعاً إلى مواصلة المهام والأنشطة وتقديم تجارب تعليمية وتثقيفية رفيعة المستوى تتميز بالابتكار والتفاعل مع كل الجمهور.

وتقدمت السيدة ميلين كيوفاتو رئيسة لجنة المتاحف الدولية للأنشطة التعليمية والثقافية، بالتهاني إلى متاحف مشيرب على تميزها وفوزها هذا العام بتلك الجائزة المرموقة التي تقدمها اللجنة في أفضل الممارسات.

من جانبها، قالت الشيخة موزة آل ثاني مسؤولة برنامج التعليم في متاحف مشيرب: «يسعدني أن أكون من الفائزين بجائزة البرنامج التعليمي الخاص ببيت بن جلمود لهذا العام. فقد حصل كتيب بيت بن جلمود على تقدير من حكام اللجنة كونه يعرّف الطلاب من عمر 8 إلى 12 عاماً على تاريخ الرقّ في قطر. لقد كان العمل مضنياً وبذلنا جهوداً كبيرة، وأفتخر بحصولنا على هذا التقدير من مؤسسة مرموقة وعريقة».

بالإضافة إلى الفوز بجائزة البرنامج التعليمي، قامت متاحف مشيرب وبالتعاون مع كلية لندن الجامعية في قطر بعرض ورقة بحث بعنوان «العمل المشترك للجامعة والمتحف» وذلك ضمن فعاليات المؤتمر. حيث توجز ورقة البحث تفاصيل عن سلسلة المعارض الناجحة التي أعدها طلاب الماجستير في دراسات المتاحف في الجامعة بالتعاون مع متاحف مشيرب في الفترات السابقة. وأعرب فهد التركي مدير المعارض في متاحف مشيرب، عن سروره بالعمل مع كلية لندن الجامعية في قطر، معرباً عن تطلعه على الدوام للتعاون مع مختلف المؤسسات التربوية والتعليمية بهدف تطوير معارض موجهة للمجتمع توفر لهم رؤى ومعارف عميقة عن تراث قطر وتاريخها الثري.

وأوضحت عائشة الكواري مديرة التعليم في متاحف مشيرب: «معرض «حنّا بنات قطر» يستعرض قصص شخصيات قطرية نسائية في المكتب الرئيسي لشركة النفط التي كانت تقع في المنطقة الداخلية لحي مشيرب خلال فترة الثلاثينات».;
