WISH selects Qatar-based artist’s work ‘Strings of Life’ for November summit

DOHA: The World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), an initiative of Qatar Foundation (QF), has announced the winner of its competition for a large-scale artwork by a Qatar-based artist that will be displayed in the exhibition during the 2018 summit.
The winning piece, ‘Strings of Life’, was designed and proposed by Dr Shetha Faraj Abbo Al Numan, Guest Care Manager at Al Ahli Hospital. The artwork symbolises how global collaboration is key to finding effective and long-lasting solutions to the world’s most urgent healthcare issues.
It will be exhibited at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) during the WISH 2018 summit on November 13 and 14.
The structure will comprise two pieces arranged vertically over each other, and will be on display for the duration of the summit within the WISH Innovation Hub area, an enhanced interactive space designed to showcase novel healthcare products, while also hosting informal discussions and providing hands-on experience of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality.
The artwork, which will be attached to the ceiling, includes a representation of the four chains of the human DNA helix, with the strands of the DNA structure being connected by human arms of various skin colours and textures, denoting human diversity in terms of ethnicity and age. A second aspect of the artwork will be attached to the floor and features a semi-spherical hollow globe, built using stainless steel wires.
Al Jawhara Al Mana, Communications Officer at WISH said, “The design is not only visually appealing, but each feature of the art piece carries a deep meaning that embodies global health and wellbeing, as well as the efforts of all healthcare professionals. We would like to thank all those who submitted their creative ideas and hope to receive the same level of quality and participation in our future activities.”
Commenting on her inspiration for the design, Dr Al Numan said, “I feel honoured and privileged that my design has been chosen to go on display during the upcoming WISH.
“The idea is to portray the inevitable connection between mankind and mother earth. My artwork connects that concept to our contemporary era by utilizing modern materials and high-tech devices in the construction of the art piece.
“I believe that WISH, much like our Mother Earth, looks after mankind, promotes, and nurtures the wellbeing of global populations. Moreover, it encourages innovation and research in the field of healthcare to bring prosperity and happiness to humanity around the globe.”
أعلن مؤتمر القمة العالمي للابتكار في الرعاية الصحية «ويش»، مبادرة مؤسسة قطر، عن اختيار التحفة الفنية المركزية التي سيتم اعتمادها في قاعة المعرض الرئيسية – محور الابتكار، خلال فعاليات القمة التي ستعقد في مركز قطر الوطني للمؤتمرات في 13-14 نوفمبر 2018.
وكان «ويش» قد دعا الفنانين في قطر لابتكار تحفة مركزية تجمع ما بين الإبداع الفني، وتجسيد ركيزة الرعاية الصحية التي يضطلع بها المؤتمر. وتم اختيار القطعة الفائزة من تصميم الدكتورة شذى فرج عبو النعمان، مديرة رعاية النزلاء في مستشفى الأهلي، وتحمل اسم «سلاسل الحياة»، وهي مكونة من قطعتين رأسيتين، سيتم عرضهما طيلة فترة انعقاد فعاليات المؤتمر.
وقالت الجوهرة المانع مسؤولة الاتصالات في مبادرة ويش: «نهنئ الدكتورة النعمان، التي نجحت في تقديم تحفة فنية تجسد الرؤية الحقيقة التي يحملها مؤتمر القمة العالمي للابتكار في الرعاية الصحية. وهي رؤية تسعى إلى إيجاد عالم أكثر صحة، من خلال التعاون الدولي».
وتابعت المانع بالقول: «يتميز التصميم الفائز بكونه جذاباً، بالإضافة إلى أنه يحمل سمات فنية مميزة تجسد المعنى العميق للصحة والرفاهية على مستوى العالم، إلى جانب جهود جميع العاملين في مجال الرعاية الصحية. كما أود أن أشكر جميع المشاركين الذين تقدموا بأفكارهم الإبداعية، مع أملنا بالحفاظ على المستوى نفسه من الجودة والمشاركة في أنشطتنا المستقبلية».
ويتضمن العمل الفني الفائز، تمثيلاً للسلاسل الأربعة تجسد الحمض النووي البشري، مرتبطة بأذرع بشرية من ألوان وأنسجة مختلفة متدلية من السقف، كدلالة على التنوع البشري من حيث العرق والسن. بالإضافة إلى جزء مثبت في الأرض، يشبه كرة مجوفة مصممة باستخدام أسلاك الصلب غير القابل للصدأ. وهي ترمز إلى أهمية التعاون الدولي لإيجاد حلول فعالة وطويلة الأمد لقضايا الرعاية الصحية الأكثر إلحاحاً في العالم.
من جهتها، قالت الدكتورة النعمان: «يغمرني الشعور بالفخر والتميز لاختيار تصميمي للعرض خلال فعاليات مؤتمر ويش المقبلة. وتقوم الفكرة التي قدمتها على تصوير العلاقة الحتمية بين البشرية والأرض الأم. لذلك يسعى عملي الفني إلى ربط هذا المفهوم مع عصرنا الحالي، من خلال استخدام المواد الحديثة والأجهزة ذات التقنية العالية في تقديم هذه التحفة الفنية. وأنا أعتقد أن مؤتمر «ويش» يشبه، إلى حد كبير، أمّنا الأرض، من ناحية أنه يهتم بالعنصر البشري، ويسعى إلى تعزيز رفاهية سكان العالم. كما أنه، أيضاً، يشجع على الابتكار والبحوث في مجال الرعاية الصحية لتحقيق الرخاء وتوفير السعادة للبشر في جميع أنحاء العالم».;
