Qatargas announces 22-year LNG supply deal with PetroChina

DOHA: Qatargas announced yesterday a long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with PetroChina International Company Limited, a unit of PetroChina Company Limited (PetroChina), to supply China with around 3.4 million tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) per annum.

Qatargas is the world’s largest LNG producing company with an annual production capacity of 77 million tonnes while PetroChina is China’s largest gas supplier, supplying 66 percent of China’s domestic demand in 2017.

Under the 22-year SPA, which ends in 2040, Qatargas will supply LNG from the Qatargas2 project, a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil and Total, to different receiving terminals across China, with the first cargo to be delivered to the People’s Republic of China later this month.

Commenting on thelandmark agreement, Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum, and Chairman of the Qatargas Board of Directors, said: “I would like to thank the Government of the People’s Republic of China and PetroChina for this important SPA. This agreement underscores Qatar’s trusted capability in ensuring energy security to countries around the world, particularly in Asia, as well as its unique position as the world’s largest LNG producer, supplying safely and reliably across the globe”.

“We are very pleased to be of support to the People’s Republic of China in its quest to secure LNG supplies to meet the country’s growing energy requirements. As we announce this long-term SPA, we look forward to continuing to supply reliable and clean energy to China and to countries all over the world that seek to use the cleanest fossil fuel available to meet their energy needs,” he added.

Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatargas Chief Executive Officer, said: “This is an important milestone for Qatargas. We are very pleased that LNG from Qatargas continues to contribute towards meeting the huge demand for energy in the world’s second largest economy.

With China expected to become one of the world’s largest gas markets, this SPA will further strengthen the existing relationship between Qatargas and PetroChina over the long-term”.

The SPA allows flexibility in delivering LNG to various receiving terminals across China, including the Dalian, Jiangsu, Tangshan and Shenzhen LNG receiving terminals, utilising Qatargas’ fleet of 70 conventional, Q-Flex and Q-Max LNG vessels.

It is anticipated that the People’s Republic of China will become one of the world’s largest gas markets. Chinese gas consumption grew by 15 percent in 2017 alone, with LNG imports growing by more than 40 percent.

أعلنت شركة قطرغاز عن توقيع اتفاقية بيع وشراء طويلة الأمد مع شركة بتروتشاينا الدولية المحدودة والتابعة لشركة بتروتشاينا المحدودة، وذلك لتزويد الصين بحوالي 3.4 مليون طن من الغاز الطبيعي المسال سنوياً.

وبموجب هذه الاتفاقية التي تمتد حتى العام 2040، ستقوم قطرغاز بتزويد الغاز الطبيعي المسال إلى محطات استقبال مختلفة عبر الصين من مشروع قطرغاز 2 وهو مشروع مشترك بين قطر للبترول وإكسون موبيل وتوتال حيث سيتم تسليم أول شحنة إلى جمهورية الصين الشعبية خلال هذا الشهر.

وبهذه المناسبة، صرح المهندس سعد بن شريده الكعبي، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للبترول ورئيس مجلس إدارة قطرغاز، بأن هذه الاتفاقية تؤكد قدرة قطر على ضمان أمن الطاقة للدول المختلفة، ولاسيما دول آسيا.

وأضاف أن هذه الاتفاقية تبرز أيضا موقع قطر الفريد كأكبر منتج للغاز الطبيعي المسال في العالم والذي تقوم من خلاله بتوفير الغاز بأمان وموثوقية إلى جميع أنحاء العالم، معربا عن سعادة شركته بتقديم الدعم لجمهورية الصين الشعبية في سعيها لتأمين إمدادات الغاز الطبيعي المسال لتلبية متطلباتها المتزايدة من الطاقة.

وأفاد بأنه مع الإعلان عن هذه الاتفاقية طويلة الأمد، فإن قطرغاز تتطلع إلى مواصلة توفير طاقة موثوقة ونظيفة للصين ولجميع بلدان العالم التي تسعى إلى تلبية احتياجاتها من الطاقة بالغاز الطبيعي الذي يعد أفضل وقود أحفوري صديق للبيئة.

أما سعادة الشيخ خالد بن خليفة آل ثاني، الرئيس التنفيذي لـ قطرغاز فاعتبر هذا الاتفاق إنجازاً هاماً لـ قطرغاز، معربا عن سرور شركته بأن الغاز الطبيعي المسال الذي تقوم بإنتاجه مستمر في تلبية الطلب المتزايد على الطاقة في ثاني أكبر اقتصاد في العالم.

كما أكد على أن هذه الاتفاقية طويلة الأمد ستعزز العلاقة القائمة بين قطرغاز وشركة النفط الصينية “بتروتشاينا” على المدى الطويل، حيث إنه من المتوقع أن تصبح الصين واحدة من أكبر أسواق الغاز في العالم .

وتتيح هذه الاتفاقية المرونة في تسليم الغاز الطبيعي المسال إلى مختلف محطات الاستقبال عبر الصين، بما في ذلك محطات استقبال الغاز الطبيعي المسال التالية: داليان، وجيانغسو، وتانغشان، وشنتشن، وذلك من خلال استخدام أسطول قطرغاز المكون من 70 ناقلة من طراز الناقلات التقليدية (والكيو-فلكس والكيو-ماكس).

وتعد قطرغاز أكبر شركة منتجة للغاز الطبيعي المسال في العالم بطاقة إنتاجية تبلغ 77 مليون طن سنوياً. أما شركة بتروتشاينا المحدودة، فتعد أكبر مورّد للغاز في الصين، حيث وفرت 66 في المائة من الطلب المحلي في العام 2017.

ومن المتوقع أن تصبح جمهورية الصين الشعبية أحد أكبر أسواق الغاز في العالم، حيث ارتفع معدل استهلاك الغاز في الصين بنسبة 15 في المائة عام 2017 مع زيادة في واردات الغاز الطبيعي المسال بأكثر من 40 في المائة.
