Expat Pakistanis celebrate Independence Day with zest
سفارة باكستان بالدوحة تحيي ذكرى الاستقلال
The atmosphere was abuzz and colourful at the embassy of Pakistan yesterday morning when expatriates gathered in large numbers to mark the country’s 71st Independence Day.
Though it was a hot and working day, Pakistani expatriates from all walks of life converged on the embassy premises with families to commemorate the day. The expatriates greeted each other and spent some time socialising. Clad in green attire, most of the children were carrying national flags.
An impressive contingent of Pakistan’s armed forces presented the national flag. Murad Baseer, charge d’affaires, hoisted the flag as the gathering sang the national anthem cheerfully. Sarwar Hussain, third secretary at the embassy, read out messages from President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nasir-ul-Mulk for the Independence Day. “August 14 reminds us of the epic democratic struggle of our forefathers for securing a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent where they could fashion their lives according to their religious, cultural and social values.
Indeed, we are indebted to our ancestors for their innumerable sacrifices for the cause of freedom and dignity of their future generations,” the president was quoted as saying.
“The day inspires us to serve our country and raise our green flag, which symbolises our hopes and aspirations, even higher. It is indeed a time for celebration as our hopes and aspirations bore fruit on this day,” the president noted.
The prime minister underscored the significance, saying, “This day provides us an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the ideals of our Quaid and to the aspirations of Dr Allama Mohamed Iqbal who wanted to see the Muslim community flourish in a separate homeland without any fear of oppression, intolerance, inequality and injustice. Our great Quaid Mohamed Ali Jinnah had envisioned a democratic, tolerant and progressive Pakistan where every citizen could utilise his or her faculties to the fullest and could reap the benefits of socio-economic progress in an equitable manner. Let us rededicate ourselves to those ideals and also to reassess as to what extent we have been able to achieve those ideals.”
Congratulating resident Pakistanis, Murad Baseer said he had noted great love and loyalty among expatriate Pakistanis for their country. “I urge you to carry your good experiences to Pakistan,” he said.
He further said Pakistan was on a right track as the recently concluded general elections were third in a row. He felt the continuity of democracy was a good omen for a better future. A cake, decorated in the colours of the national flag, was cut by Murad and other officers of the mission. After the cake-cutting ceremony, children sang national songs and the gathering raised slogans of Pakistan Zindabad (Long live Pakistan). The eventful celebration also had traditional Pakistani breakfast.
Adeel Akbar, who has been living in Qatar for 40 years, said, “As long as I am in Doha, I never miss the Independence Day celebrations. I always take a day off from my work to attend the event at the embassy. This time, the Pakistanis have attended the event in possibly their largest numbers. It is wonderful to see. I am an optimist and see a better future for my country.”
Mohamed Rashid Khan hails from Pakistan-administered Kashmir and has been living in Qatar for 37 years. He said, “I am here with my family. The gathering is the largest one so far. A change in government has also brought vibrancy in the expatriates. Oversees Pakistanis have high hopes from the new government.”
أحيت سفارة باكستان بالدوحة صباح اليوم ، ذكرى استقلال البلاد، حيث أقيمت مراسم رفع العلم بصحبة النشيد الوطني الباكستاني وقراءة خطاب رئيس جمهورية باكستان ورئيس وزرائها احتفالا بهذه المناسبة.
وحسب بيان للسفارة الباكستانية، فقد حضر هذه المناسبة عدد كبير من الباكستانيين المتواجدين في قطر، كما تم تقديم الفطور الباكستاني التقليدي بعد المراسم. وقام الضيوف بالتواصل مع بعضهم البعض وتهنئة بعضهم البعض بمناسبة يوم الاستقلال، معبرين عن سعادتهم وتبادلوا وجهات نظرهم مع القائم بالأعمال في سفارة باكستان ومسؤولين آخرين في السفارة.
ويحتفل الباكستانيون بيوم الاستقلال من كل عام في 14 أغسطس في كل أنحاء العالم حيث تقوم بتنظيمه سفارات جمهورية باكستان الإسلامية والمنظمات الثقافية والاجتماعية الباكستانية، حيث يقوم الباكستانيون بالتعبير عن وحدتهم وحبهم لوطنهم الأم.
وفي هذه المناسبة، وجه فخامة السيد مأمون حسين ، رئيس الجمهورية الإسلامية الباكستانية رسالة إلى الشعب الباكستاني قال فيها :” أهنئ مواطني باكستان في المناسبة الميمونة بيوم الاستقلال الـ72. هذا اليوم ينعش حماسنا ويجدد عزمنا على العمل من أجل التقدم والازدهار في وطننا الأم. كما أنه يلهمنا من أجل خدمة بلدنا ورفع علمنا الأخضر إلى الأعلى، الذي يرمز إلى آمالنا وتطلعاتنا. إنه في الواقع وقت للاحتفال حيث إن آمالنا وتطلعاتنا تنمو في هذا اليوم”.
وأضاف :” باكستان نعمة من الله سبحانه وتعالى وملاذ للمسلمين في شبه القارة. لقد خاض أجدادنا صراعا فريدا وقدموا تضحيات لا مثيل لها من أجل باكستان. والآن تقع على عاتقنا مسؤولية تشكيلها وفقاً لأحلام مؤسسيها ، ولتحقيق هذا الهدف ، يجب أن تكون هناك علاقات جيدة وانسجام وأخوة بين جميع طبقات المجتمع”.
وتابع:” يتم الاحتفال بالأيام الوطنية بغرض تثقيف المجتمع ، وخاصة الجيل الجديد حول الهدف والنضال من أجل باكستان. أعتقد أن هدف تنمية البلاد وإعادة إحياء ماضيها المجيد لا يمكن أن يتحقق إلا إذا عملنا بمفردنا على الإبقاء على مصالحنا الشخصية جانبا”.
بدوره وجه سعادة رئيس الوزراء ناصر الملك رسالة إلى الشعب الباكستاني قائلا :” أود أن أتقدم بأحر التهاني إلى جميع الباكستانيين الذين يعيشون داخل البلد وخارجه في المناسبة الميمونة يوم استقلال باكستان. يذكرنا الرابع عشر من أغسطس بكفاح أسلافنا الديمقراطي الملحمي لتأمين وطن منفصل لمسلمي شبه القارة الهندية حيث يمكنهم تصميم حياتهم وفقا لقيمهم الدينية والثقافية والاجتماعية. وفي الواقع ، نحن مدينون لأسلافنا بتضحياتهم التي لا حصر لها لقضية حرية وكرامة أجيالهم القادمة”.
وأضاف :” يمنحنا هذا اليوم فرصة لإعادة تأكيد التزامنا بمُثُل قياداتنا وتطلعات الدكتور العلامة محمد إقبال الذي أراد رؤية الجالية المسلمة تزدهر في وطن منفصل دون أي خوف من الاضطهاد والتعصب وعدم المساواة والظلم. لقد تصور القائد العظيم محمد علي جناح ، باكستان ديمقراطية متسامحة تقدمية ، حيث يمكن لكل مواطن أن يستفيد منها على أكمل وجه ويمكن أن يجني فوائد التقدم الاجتماعي والاقتصادي بطريقة منصفة. لقد ناضل ووقف من أجل حكم القانون والمساواة وإقامة نظام حكم ديمقراطي. دعونا نكرس أنفسنا في هذا اليوم لهذه المثل وأن نعيد تقييم مدى تمكننا من تحقيق تلك المثل العليا. وطالب رئيس الوزراء الباكستاني في رسالته بتجديد العهد ببناء باكستان ، داعيا للاحتفال بالأبطال وجميع الذين وضعوا قلبهم وروحهم نحو ضمان عدم تشويه حريتنا بأي عوامل داخلية أو خارجية.
