Eid fest at Souq Waqif a crowd-puller
مهرجان العيد يستقطب العائلات بسوق واقف
DOHA: Eid Al Adha Festival 2018 at Souq Waqif turns out to be a favourite leisure spot for kids and families during the holiday.
The festival attracted hundreds of visitors over the weekend. The air conditioned tents providing fun-filled activities have become kids favourite station. The festival will continue till tomorrow from 4pm to 10.30pm.
Talking to The Peninsula, Mohamed Salem, General Manager at Souq Waqif said: “The Festival kicked off on the second day of Eid Al Adha. We have installed the tent at the East yard of the souq which has become the main place of attraction during these days. This festival is open for public for next two days. We are offering more than 25 games at the festival, which includes bowling, football, video games and art activities for different age groups.”
Entry to festival and all of its colourful activities are free of cost for people with disabilities, whereas they are also offered gifts on each visit.
“We have a huge gift stall where the kids can collect gifts on winning. When a kid wins a game he is given a coupon of congratulation which leads them to pick gift of their own choice,” Salem added.
One-hour long live shows are performed three times a day at the festival. The live shows include magic show, bubble show, light effects show and acrobatics. Visitors enjoy the special art section.
“I have enjoyed my visit here. We gave our pictures to a cartoonist and we were super excited to see the caricatures of our portraits.
“The best show so far was the magic show and we found it the most thrilling of all. As our schools will reopen soon we are enjoying the last weekend the most,” said Abdullah Ghanim, a young boy at the festival.
Parents are also enjoying Souq Waqif while the care takers can take care of their kids at the festival they can enjoy shopping at the Souq.
An expatriate lady at Eid Al Adha Festival said: “Souq Waqif is all time favourite spot for kids and families. We gather up and leave our kids at the festival as the security is sufficient and venue is designed very nicely keeping in mind the security precautions. We can sit outside and enjoy the fresh air and kids can enjoy their games which cost almost QR10.”
Tourists from different countries who enjoy their Eid Al Adha in Qatar were also seen at the festival. Qais Fahd, an Omani tourist told The Peninsula, “Mostly Qatar is our favourite spot to spend vacations due to its catchy and attractive activities. I, along with my family planned to spend our Eid holidays in Qatar. Souq Waqif has always been our favourite spot for shopping and enjoying the rich culture of Doha. Kids have enjoyed the live shows the most at Eid Al Adha Festival.”

تستقطب فعاليات مهرجان عيد الأضحى المبارك في سوقي واقف والوكرة، الذي تنظمه لجنة الاحتفالات بالمكتب الهندسي الخاص، جمهوراً غفيراً منذ انطلاقه في ثاني أيام العيد. وتوافدت العائلات القطرية والمقيمة على مكان المهرجان في السوقين، من أجل الترفيه عن صغارها على بُعد أيام معدودات من بداية العام الدراسي. وساهمت الخيمتان المكيفتان اللتان نصبتا في السوقين في تلطيف الأجواء الحارة، التي يصعب معها ممارسة الألعاب المفضلة للصغار في الهواء الطلق.
يعد سوق واقف من أهم الوجهات السياحية المفضلة للعائلات، وزوار دولة قطر، وقد ذاع صيت هذه الوجهة عبر العالم.
وضمت خيمة سوق واقف ألعاباً متعددة ومتنوعة موجهة للأطفال، بالإضافة إلى فقرات أدتها فرق من دول أوروبية، منها القرع على الطبول، ومنوعات مسرحية، وألعاب خفة اليد، وأكروبات مضيئة، ومهارات التوازن البهلوانية، وعرض عازف التشيلو البهلواني، والدائرة البهلوانية المضيئة، فضلاً عن الكثير من الألعاب الإلكترونية، والألعاب المهارية الأخرى.
وأكد السيد محمد السالم مدير إدارة سوق واقف في تصريحات صحفية، على حرص إدارة السوق على تنظيم مهرجان عيد الأضحى في الأعياد والإجازات وغيرها من المناسبات الدينية والاجتماعية بهدف المشاركة في إدخال البهجة والسعادة على الجميع في هذه الأيام المباركة، خاصة أن سوق واقف يعد أحد أهم الوجهات السياحية المفضلة للعائلات وزوار دولة قطر وبالتالي تم العمل على تنظيم مهرجان عيد الأضحى المبارك ليكون الوجهة الترفيهية للعائلات خلال إجازة العيد، مؤكدا أن المهرجان يُرتقَب أن يشهد إقبالا كبيرا وحضورا مميزا من العائلات والسائحين.
وشدد السالم على حرص لجنة الاحتفالات بالمكتب الهندسي الخاص وإدارة سوق واقف على أن يكون مهرجان عيد الأضحى المبارك داخل خيمة كبيرة مكيفة في الساحة الشرقية للسوق نظرا لطبيعة الطقس وارتفاع درجات الحرارة حيث تضم هذه الخيمة الكثير من الألعاب للصغار من أجل إدخال البهجة والفرحة في نفوسهم مع تنوع الألعاب والفعاليات.
وأشار إلى أن جميع الألعاب روعي فيها أن تكون بأسعار عادلة وفي متناول الجميع.
بدورهم، ينهمك فنانو مركز سوق واقف للفنون بشتى مشاربهم الفنية، في مداعبة الريشة والألوان، لصياغة أعمال فنية تستوحى من أيام عيد الأضحى السعيد.;
