Zakat al-Fitr is QR15 for each individual this year: Ministry of Awqaf

Doha: The Zakat Fund of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has urged the public to pay Zakat al-Fitr on time, pointing out that it is a duty (required) of every Muslim, whether male or female, minor or adult as long as he/she has the means to do so.

This came in a statement issued by the Fund in this regard, in which it specifies the amount of Zakat al-Fitr for this Ramadan season 1439H (equivalent to QR 15) and that it should be given before the Eid al-Fitr prayer.

According to Islamic tradition (Sunnah), Ibn ‘Umar said that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) made Zakat al-Fitr compulsory on every slave, freeman, male, female, young and old among the Muslims; one Saa of dried dates or one Saa of barley.1 .

The head of the household may pay the required amount for the other members. Abu Sa’eed al-Khudree said: The main purpose of Zakat al-Fitr is to provide the poor which they can celebrate the festival of breaking the fast (Eid al-Fitr) along with the rest of the Muslims.

Every Muslim is required to pay Zakat al-Fitr at the conclusion of the month of Ramadan as a token of thankfulness to God for having enabled him or her to observe the obligatory fast. Its purpose is to purify those who fast from any indecent act or speech and to help the poor and needy.

The Zakat Fund Administration has announced that it receives Zakat al-Fitr through its offices and collection points throughout the country for the benefit of the public, calling on all Muslims to expedite their release from now so that the Fund can distribute them to the needy in time.

حث صندوق الزكاة بوزارة الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية، الجمهور على إخراج زكاة الفطر في موعدها، منبهاً إلى أنها فريضة على المسلم ذكراً كان أم أنثى، كبيراً أم صغيراً.

جاء ذلك خلال بيان أصدره الصندوق بهذا الخصوص، وحدد فيه مقدار زكاة الفطر لهذا الموسم الرمضاني 1439هـ بما يعادل (15) ريالاً قطرياً، وأنه يتعيَّنُ إخراجها قبل صلاة عيد الفطر.

ونوَّه الصندوق بأن الأصل في زكاة الفطر إخراجها طعاماً من غالب قوت الناس وهو الأرز، ومقدارها بالصاع النبوي 2.5 كيلو جرام، مع جواز إخراجها نقداً بقيمة (15) ريالاً قطرياً كما ذكر سابقاً.

وأشار البيان إلى مشروعية زكاة الفطر، مذكراً بقول الحق عز وجل: «وأقيموا الصلاة وآتوا الزكاة»، وما رواه عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما، قال: (فرض رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم زكاة الفطر، صاعاً من تمر أو صاعاً من شعير، على العبد والحر، والذكر والأنثى، والصغير والكبير من المسلمين).;
