QU honours winners of Destination Imagination competition
جامعة قطر تكرّم طالباتها بطلات العالم في «وجه وجهتك»
DOHA: Qatar University (QU) yesterday hosted a ceremony to honour the students who won the first place in scientific and improvisational challenges in the Destination Imagination (DI) 2018 which took place in Tennessee on May 23-26.
The students Aldana Ali Alyafei and Suhila Tariq Zaffer (QU College of Engineering), Sameera Hamad AlMuraikhi (QU College of Business and Economics), Sumaya Tariq Zaffer, Raja Mohamed Aderdor and AL Anqa Alharbi (QU College of Arts and Sciences), and Fatima Al Mansouri (QU College of Education) represented QU Destination Imagination competition in the scientific and improvisational challenges.
Attending the events were QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham, QU Director of Student Services & Activities Dr Abdulla Al Yafei, and AlFaisal Without Borders (ALF) General Manager Abdullatif Al Yafei, as well as QU officials and staff.
The finals of the scientific challenge witnessed a strong competition between the State of Qatar, China and the US. As the culminating event of the DI season, Global Finals provides finalists the opportunity to showcase their top-scoring innovative solutions in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), as well as service learning and improvisation, at the world’s largest celebration of creativity. The solutions were assessed by a panel of trained judges, ranging from educators to entrepreneurs to engineers, and were scored on a variety of elements, including originality, workmanship, presentation and teamwork.
Dr Hassan Al Derham congratulated the winning students saying: “We at Qatar University believe that the student activities and the university life are not less important than the academic aspect. These activities contribute to building the students’ personalities and their confidence, and to developing their skills and capabilities in the field of leadership, teamwork and research. Additionally, we are keen to provide our students with the opportunity to participate in international events, which allow them to interact and exchange their ideas with their peers from various cultures and backgrounds.”
Dr Abdulla Al Yafei said: “We are proud of our students’ achievement. The university is not limited to classroom learning as the labor market seeks for graduates who have the theoretical and practical skills.
The Destination Imagination competition contributes to strengthening the students’ leadership, problem-solving and teamwork skills. QU is committed to encourage and support its students to participate in various competitions at the national and international levels.”
كرّم الدكتور حسن بن راشد الدرهم -رئيس جامعة قطر- أمس الطالبات الفائزات بالمركز الأول ضمن فئتي التحدي العلمي والتحدي الفوري، وهن كلٌّ من: الدانة اليافعي، سميرة المريخي، سمية طارق، سهيلة طارق، رجاء محمد، فاطمة المنصوري، العنقاء عبدالعزيز الحربي.
شارك في هذه التحديات فرق تمثل 18 دولة، بالإضافة إلى 45 ولاية أميركية، وذلك في نهائيات مسابقات «وجه وجهتك» الدولية، التي أقيمت في مدينة نوكسفيل بولاية «تينيسي» في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية خلال الفترة من 23 إلى 27 مايو 2018.
قال الدكتور حسن بن راشد الدرهم: «سعيد جداً بتواجدي بينكم اليوم في هذه المناسبة الجميلة، حيث نقوم بتكريم مجموعة من طالبات جامعة قطر المتميزات، اللاتي استطعن أن يتفوقن بجدارة، ويحققن لأنفسهن وجامعة قطر، نجاحاً ملحوظاً مباركاً»
وأوضح الدرهم أن مسابقة «وجه وجهتك» تعتبر من أهم المسابقات العالمية في هذا المجال، حيث شارك فيها نحو 16000 طالب من 18 دولة، و45 ولاية أميركية، من جميع المراحل الدراسية، مشيراً لأنها تجمع بين الجانب العلمي البحثي، والجانب الإبداعي، وأيضاً يتعلم فيها الطلاب كيفية العمل كفريق واحد، وإظهار المواهب المختلفة، وتصميم المسرح الهندسي، وتوزيع الميزانية بحذر، وأيضاً يتعلم الطلاب المفاهيم العلمية المتنوعة.
وقال «نؤمن في جامعة قطر أن الأنشطة الطلابية والحياة الجامعية لا تقل أهمية عن الجانب الأكاديمي، فعبر هذه الأنشطة تتشكل شخصية الطلبة، وثقتهم بأنفسهم، وتبرز إمكاناتهم القيادية، ما سينعكس إيجاباً على الجانب الأكاديمي، وتطور لديهم مهارات العمل الجماعي، والقدرات البحثية».
وأضاف : نحرص على أن يشارك طلبة الجامعة في الفعاليات الدولية، لما في ذلك من أهمية كبرى، فمن المهم للطلبة في هذه المرحلة الاطلاع على الثقافات الأخرى، والتفاعل مع الأفكار، ومدّ جسور الحوار والتواصل مع الآخر».
وقال الدكتور عبدالله اليافعي -مدير شؤون الحياة الطلابية والخدمات في جامعة قطر-: «نحن فخورون بإنجاز طالباتنا، حيث تلتزم جامعة قطر بتشجيع ودعم طلبتها للمشاركة في مختلف المسابقات، على المستويين المحلي والدولي».
وأضاف : «تساهم مسابقات «وجه وجهتك» الدولية في تعزيز مهارات الطلبة في القيادة والعمل الجماعي، وحل المشكلات».;
