Ooredoo pushes forward with 5G network roll-out

DOHA: Ooredoo is pushing forward with its 5G network roll-out plan across Qatar, less than three weeks since the company announced it was the first operator in the world to launch the 5G network commercially, in the 3.5GHz spectrum band.

At a special event held in Katara Cultural Village, Ooredoo’s Chief Executive Officer, Waleed Al Sayed, announced Katara is officially the second live 5G network site in Qatar.

During the event, Ooredoo demonstrated the speed of the new 5G network in the Cultural Village, and the network reached an impressive 2.51 Gbps with an extremely high throughput and low latency.

Talking at the event, Waleed Al Sayed said: “We’re pushing forward with our roll-out plan, making 5G a reality to our customers. Katara, the cultural home of our beloved Qatar, is now officially 5G-ready. With the huge investments we’re making in our technology, we aim to enhance our customers’ digital lives, giving them access to life-changing opportunities and allowing them to enjoy the Internet in every way possible.”

Although Ooredoo’s 5G Supernet network is not yet accessible by smartphones, due to world-wide manufacturing limitations, the company has stated that it is working to rapidly roll-out its state-of-the-art network so that consumers and businesses across Qatar can instantly benefit as soon as compatible devices are made available.

Ooredoo’s 5G network roll-out will have a hugely positive impact on many sectors in Qatar, such as health and education, and on the entertainment industry. This is due to the rise of Internet of Things applications that need extremely high speeds and will pave the way for a host of smart technologies like smart cars, VR, AR and drones to be part of everyday life.

The first stage of Ooredoo’s 5G Supernet deployment will cover an area from The Pearl Qatar to Hamad International Airport and the company have stated they aim to update 100 network stations to 5G within the next three months.

وخلال فعالية خاصة أقيمت في «كتارا»، أعلن وليد السيد -الرئيس التنفيذي لـ «ooredoo»- أن «كتارا» أصبحت الموقع الثاني الذي يوفر 5G في قطر. هذا وقد عرضت «ooredoo» خلال الفعالية السرعات التي توفرها شبكة 5G، إذ وصلت إلى 2.51 جيجابت بالثانية، وبمعدل مرتفع للسعة، وتأخير منخفض جداً.

وحول تدشين محطة «كتارا»، قال وليد السيد: «نواصل نشر شبكة 5G في جميع أنحاء قطر، لنجعل 5G حقيقة لجميع عملائنا، وها قد أصبحت (كتارا) مزودة بشبكة 5G رسمياً. تهدف استثماراتنا الضخمة في هذا المجال إلى الارتقاء بنمط الحياة الرقمية لعملائنا، ومنحهم فرصاً لإحداث التغيير الإيجابي في حياتهم، وتمكينهم من الاستمتاع بالإنترنت بشتى الطرق».

وعلى الرغم من عدم توفر أجهزة ذكية متوافقة مع خدمة 5G التي توفرها شبكة سوبرنت، إلا أن «ooredoo» قد أعلنت عن نيتها نشر شبكتها المتطورة بأقصى سرعة ممكنة، لكي يتمكن العملاء من الأفراد والشركات في كل أنحاء قطر من الاستفادة من الميزات العديدة والسرعات العالية حال توفر مثل تلك الأجهزة.

أثر

وسيكون لشبكة 5G من «ooredoo» أثر إيجابي كبير على العديد من القطاعات في قطر، مثل الصحة، والتعليم، والترفيه. ويعود هذا إلى انتشار التطبيقات التي تتطلب سرعات عالية جداً، مثل إنترنت الأشياء، التي ستمهد الطريق للعديد من التقنيات المتطورة، مثل المركبات الذكية، والواقع الافتراضي والمعزز، وطائرات الدرون، لكي تصبح جزءاً أساسياً من حياتنا.

وتشمل المرحلة الأولى من نشر شبكة 5G: مناطق اللؤلؤة، ومطار حمد الدولي، وكانت الشركة قد أعلنت أنها تهدف إلى تحديث 100 موقع للشبكة خلال 3 أشهر، لتوفر خدمة 5G.;
