Milestone for Ooredoo as 22 5G network towers now live

DOHA: Ooredoo announced yesterday a new network milestone, with 22 5G network towers now live, covering an area from West Bay to Hamad International Airport.

Due to this momentous effort from the company, some of Qatar’s busiest areas are now 5G ready, meaning more people than ever will be able to access the life-changing network technology when devices become available. The latest network tower updates include areas such as the Pearl, Hamad International Airport, West Bay, Rawdah and more.

Talking about the milestone, Waleed Al Sayed, Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo Qatar, said: “At our world-first 5G launch in May, we promised that 100 5G sites would be ready in three months and we are working hard to fulfil this.

We understand the potential of 5G and want to ensure Qatar is the first country to truly benefit from its network technology, which is why we are investing so heavily in the roll-out. With our state-of-the-art 5G network now available in some of Qatar’s most populated areas, it will vastly improve signal strength for both 5G users and other networks (such as 4G) when devices are available.”

To demonstrate the amazing power of Ooredoo 5G to its customers, the company recently built a high-tech Virtual Reality simulated football environment in one of the World Cup Fan Zones in Khalifa stadium.

The VR football environment is available to enjoy for free at Gate 2, Level 1 of Khalifa Stadium until 14 July, and the experience runs solely and seamlessly on Ooredoo 5G.

Reaching 22 5G network towers is the latest milestone for Ooredoo’s Supernet network, in May Ooredoo announced it was the first operator in the world to launch a 5G network commercially, in the 3.5GHz spectrum band, and the company has since gone on to roll-out the network to Katara Cultural Village, where a live speed test reached an impressive 2.51 Gbps with an extremely high throughput and low latency.

As well as speed and reliability, Ooredoo’s 5G network roll-out will have a hugely positive impact on many business sectors and organisations in Qatar. Most noticeably, Ooredoo 5G will lead to the rise of the Internet of Things applications in Qatar such as smart cars, VR, AR and drones.

Due to worldwide manufacturing limitations, Ooredoo’s 5G Supernet network is not yet accessible by smartphones, however, the company has stated that it is working to rapidly roll-out its state-of-the-art network so that consumers and businesses across Qatar can instantly benefit as soon as compatible devices are made available.

وبفضل هذه الجهود الكبيرة التي تبذلها الشركة، أصبحت تلك المناطق الآن مجهزة بتقنية الجيل الخامس (5G)؛ ما يعني أن عدداً أكبر من الأفراد في قطر -وأكثر من أي وقت مضى- سيتمكنون من الوصول إلى تقنية شبكة «5G» التي من شأنها إحداث تحولات إيجابية في حياة الأفراد عندما تصبح الأجهزة المتوافقة مع هذه التقنية متوافرة في الأسواق.

وشملت قائمة المناطق التي أُطلقت أبراج «5G» فيها مؤخراً كلاً من اللؤلؤة، ومطار حمد الدولي، والخليج الغربي، والروضة، وغيرها من المناطق.

وفي تعليقه حول هذا الإنجاز، قال وليد السيد، الرئيس التنفيذي لـ «ooredoo قطر»: «لقد أعلنّا في شهر مايو الماضي عن التزامنا بتجهيز أكثر من 100 موقع في قطر بتقنية (5G) خلال فترة لا تتجاوز 3 أشهر. ونحن نعمل جاهدين لتحقيق ذلك. نحن ندرك تماماً قدرات هذه التقنية المتطورة، ونسعى بوضوح لأن تكون قطر هي أول دولة تستفيد بشكل ملموس من تقنية (5G)، ولهذا السبب نواصل الاستثمار والعمل الجاد لتجهيز وإطلاق كل ما يتعلق بهذه التقنية. الآن ومع توافر شبكة (5G) المتطورة في بعض أهم المناطق المأهولة في قطر، ستتحسن قوة الإشارة بشكل كبير لمستخدمي شبكة (5G)، والشبكات الأخرى (مثل 4G) عندما تتوافر الأجهزة المتوافقة مع هذه التقنية».

ولإتاحة الفرصة أمام العملاء لتجربة القوة المذهلة لشبكة «5G»، قامت الشركة مؤخراً بإنشاء ركن مجهز بأحدث التقنيات يحاكي أجواء ملعب كرة القدم وباستخدام تقنية الواقع الافتراضي عبر شبكة «5G» في إحدى مناطق المشجعين في استاد خليفة الدولي.

ويمكن الاستمتاع بزيارة هذا الركن وتجربة تقنية الواقع الافتراضي مجاناً في استاد خليفة الدولي (البوابة 2، الدور 1) حتى 14 يوليو، علماً أن هذه التجربة تُشغّل فقط عبر شبكة «ooredoo 5G».

ويُعدّ إطلاق 22 برج تغطية لشبكة «5G» هو الإنجاز الأحدث للشركة ضمن سلسلة من الإنجازات التي حققتها «ooredoo» على صعيد شبكة «5G». ففي مايو 2018، أعلنت «ooredoo» عن كونها أول شركة اتصالات في العالم تطلق شبكة «5G» تجارياً عبر الطيف 3.5 جيجاهيرتز. وتابعت الشركة العمل لتدشن موقعها الثاني لشبكة «5G» في «كتارا»، إذ عرضت «ooredoo» خلال تلك الفعالية السرعات التي توفرها شبكة «5G»، والتي وصلت إلى 2.51 جيجابيت في الثانية، وبمعدل مرتفع للسعة وتأخير منخفض جداً.

بالإضافة إلى السرعة الفائقة للغاية والجودة التي توفرها، سيكون لشبكة «ooredoo 5G» أثر إيجابي واضح على العديد من قطاعات الأعمال والمؤسسات في قطر. والأهم من ذلك أن «ooredoo 5G» ستساهم في ظهور تطبيقات تقنية إنترنت الأشياء في قطر مثل السيارات الذكية، وتقنيات الواقع الافتراضي، والواقع المعزز، والطائرات بدون طيار (الدورن).

وعلى الرغم من عدم توافر أجهزة ذكية متوافقة مع خدمة «5G» التي توفرها شبكة «سوبرنت»، فإن «ooredoo» قد أعلنت عن نيتها نشر شبكتها المتطورة بأقصى سرعة ممكنة؛ لكي يتمكن العملاء من الأفراد والشركات في أنحاء قطر كافة من الاستفادة من الميزات العديدة والسرعات العالية حال توافر مثل تلك الأجهزة.;
