WISH CEO promotes nursing in region with Jordan Princess

Doha: World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) CEO, Sultana Afdhal, met recently with Princess Muna Al Hussein of Jordan during a health policy forum held in Amman, Jordan, titled ‘Investing in the Nursing Workforce’. Also in attendance was Professor Rowaida Al Maaitah, Chair of the health policy forum.

The meeting addressed the importance of promoting nursing in the MENA region and globally, and preceded a launch announcement of Nursing Now Jordan by HRH Princess Muna, which follows the announcement in March of Nursing Now Qatar.

Nursing Now, which was inaugurated in London and Geneva in February 2018 and is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Council of Nurses, is a three-year campaign which aims to improve the perception of nurses, enhance their influence, and maximize their contribution to ensuring everyone everywhere has access to healthcare.

Princess Muna, who is the mother of King Abdullah II of Jordan, is the WHO Patron for Nursing and Midwifery in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, President of the Jordan Nursing Council, and a longstanding advocate of nurses and nursing.

During the visit, Afdhal moderated a roundtable titled ‘Developing and Sustaining Nursing Leadership: a call for a paradigm shift in nursing and healthcare for the 21st century’. The discussion took place at the WHO offices in Amman, Jordan, alongside Professor Rowaida Al-Maaitah and Annette Kennedy, President of the International Council of Nurses, during a health policy forum titled ‘Investing in the Nursing Workforce’.

ونوقشت خلال اللقاء أهمية الترويج للتمريض في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا.

وسبق الاجتماع الإعلان عن إطلاق الأميرة منى الحسين حملة «التمريض الآن في الأردن»، بعد فترة وجيزة من الإعلان عن إطلاق حملة «التمريض الآن في قطر». وخلال المنتدى، أدارت السيدة سلطانة أفضل، مائدة مستديرة بعنوان «تطوير واستدامة القيادة التمريضية: دعوة إلى تغيير النموذج في مجال التمريض والرعاية الصحية في القرن الحادي والعشرين»، إلى جانب البروفيسورة رويدة المعايطة، والسيدة آنيت كينيدي، رئيس المجلس الدولي للممرضات.

وتستمر حملة «التمريض الآن»، التي انطلقت في كل من لندن وجنيف، خلال شهر فبراير الماضي، بدعم من منظمة الصحة العالمية والمجلس الدولي للممرضات، لمدة 3 سنوات، وتهدف إلى تحسين عمل الممرضات، وتعظيم مساهمتهن، لضمان حصول الجميع على رعاية صحية مميزة.;
