Sheikha Hind: QF sees young people as driving force for meaningful change

DOHA: Outlining Qatar Foundation’s efforts in providing opportunities for young people through education during the United Nations (UN) Youth Dialogue conference held at the UN Headquarters in New York yesterday, H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation (QF), said that Qatar Foundation sees young people as the driving force for meaningful change and the agents of a constructive social transformation.
Sheikha Hind delivered an opening address during the UN Youth Dialogue, held under the theme “Approaches to Education, Employment and Prevention of Radicalization Leading to Violent Extremism”.
“Qatar Foundation sees young people as the driving force of meaningful change and the agents of a constructive social transformation,” H E Sheikha Hind explained. “To achieve this vision, we believe young people need not only to be schooled, but to receive a quality, holistic education that prepares them for success in a global environment, with challenges as diverse as the cultures that inhabit it.”
“Through our unique model built on international partnerships and cross-disciplinary learning, we strive to create a unique education eco-system that inspires young people to think creatively, challenge their assumptions and pursue new ideas.”
The UN Youth Dialogue, convened by the UN General Assembly President, Miroslav Lajčák, brought together educators, thought leaders, and inspiring young people to explore “The future of work – bridging the gap between education and employment”, and the “Prevention of Radicalization and Violent Extremism – what the push and pull factors?”
Following the UN Youth Dialogue, Sheikha Hind held a meeting with Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.
Additionally, earlier in the day, Sheikha Hind attended the UN Group of Friends on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) meeting where she briefed attendees on the work being carried out by QF and Qatar related to ‘Global Citizenship for Education’.
In June 2017, the GCED was formed as part of a joint initiative between Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Ambassador and the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations, and Cho Tae-yul Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations.
The purpose of the group is to help realize a more peaceful, tolerant, and inclusive society, while promoting the UN objectives of peace, sustainable development, and human rights.
Sheikha Hind’s trip to the United States forms part of QF’s mission to promote knowledge exchange, expand its outreach, and explore collaborations to develop innovative education strategies.
سلّطت سعادة الشيخة هند بنت حمد آل ثاني، نائب رئيس مجلس الإدارة والرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة قطر أمس ، الضوء على جهود المؤسسة الرامية لتمكين الشباب من خلال التعليم، وذلك في سياق مؤتمر حوار الشباب بالأمم المتحدة، الذي عُقد بالمقر الرئيسي للمنظمة في نيويورك.
وألقت سعادتها الكلمة الافتتاحية للمؤتمر، الذي أقيم تحت عنوان “المقاربات في مجال التعليم والتوظيف وتجنب التطرف الذي يؤدي إلى العنف”.
وفي هذا الصدد، قالت سعادتها: “تنظر مؤسسة قطر إلى الشباب باعتباره قوة للتغيير الإيجابي ومحفزا للتحول الاجتماعي البنّاء. ولتحقيق هذه الرؤية، فنحن لا نسعى لتوفير التعليم فحسب، بل إننا نؤمن بضرورة توفير التعليم النوعي والشامل الذي يمكّن الشباب من النجاح في بيئة عالمية، حافلة بالتحديات المتنوعة قدر تنوع تلك البيئة”.
وأضافت: “ونحن نسعى، من خلال نموذجنا الفريد الذي يرتكز على الشراكات الدولية والتعليم متعدد القطاعات، لإنشاء بيئة تعليمية مميزة، تلهم الشباب وتساعدهم على التفكير الإبداعي وتفنيد افتراضاتهم والسعي نحو تبني أفكار جديدة”.
واستقطب مؤتمر حوار الشباب بالأمم المتحدة، الذي انعقد برئاسة سعادة السيد ميروسلاف لايتشاك، رئيس الدورة الحالية للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة، التربويين وقادة الرأي والشباب الملهم لمناقشة قضيتي “العمل غداً، سدّ الفجوة ما بين التعليم والتوظيف” و”تجنب التطرف والعنف، ما هي العوامل المؤثرة؟”.
وبعد مؤتمر حوار الشباب بالأمم المتحدة، اجتمعت سعادة الشيخة هند بسعادة السيدة أمينة محمد، نائب الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة.
وفي وقت سابق ، شاركت سعادة الشيخة هند في اجتماع “مجموعة أصدقاء الأمم المتحدة حول تعليم المواطنة العالمية”، حيث أطلعت الحضور على العمل الذي تقوم به مؤسسة قطر ودولة قطر في هذا الإطار.
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن “مجموعة أصدقاء الأمم المتحدة حول تعليم المواطنة العالمية” هي ثمرة مبادرة مشتركة أطلقتها سعادة السفيرة الشيخة علياء أحمد بن سيف آل ثاني، المندوب الدائم لدولة قطر لدى الأمم المتحدة، وسعادة السفير تشو تاي-يول، المندوب الدائم لجمهورية كوريا لدى الأمم المتحدة. وتسعى هذه المبادرة إلى بناء مجتمع متسامح ومنفتح، والترويج لأهداف الأمم المتحدة الرامية لتحقيق السلام والتنمية المستدامة ودعم حقوق الإنسان.
وتندرج زيارة سعادة الشيخة هند إلى الولايات المتحدة في إطار رسالة مؤسسة قطر الساعية لتبادل المعرفة، واستكشاف مجالات التعاون المشترك لتطوير استراتيجيات تعليمية مبتكرة.
