Qatar Airways celebrates five years of service to Salalah

DOHA: Qatar Airways has celebrated its five-year anniversary of operating direct flights from Doha to Salalah, Oman. On Tuesday, the award-winning airline commemorated this milestone with a celebratory water cannon salute at Salalah International Airport.
Salalah is a unique destination in the region, offering fruit plantations, beautiful beaches, traditional souqs and archaeological sites, all scattered across a landscape that fuses the tropical with the desert.
Salalah is especially known for its numerous cultural attractions, including the ‘Al Baleed’ archaeological site, a Unesco World Heritage site that hosts the ruins of the 12th-century trading post of Zafar, and the Frankincense Museum where visitors can learn more about Salalah’s history in the frankincense trade.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are delighted to celebrate five years of flying to beautiful Salalah this month. Salalah is a highly-sought after destination for passengers wishing to experience Oman’s greenery and breathtaking natural beauty. Oman itself draws a great number of business and leisure travellers seeking to enjoy the many hidden treasures this city has to offer. We look forward to introducing more visitors to Oman, and connecting our customers from Oman to more than 150 destinations on our rapidly expanding global network”.
Qatar’s national carrier has been flying to Oman since 2000, when it first began services to the city of Muscat. In 2013, Salalah was added to the airline’s expanding network as the second destination, followed by Sohar in 2017.
Due to high demand, Qatar Airways is adding two additional frequencies to Muscat in April and June. The new frequencies will take the airline’s number of weekly flights to Oman to 70 weekly, including 49 flights to Muscat, 14 flights to Salalah and seven flights to Sohar.
The additional frequencies will also provide passengers increased connectivity to in-demand destinations such as Bangkok, Beirut, Kuala Lumpur, London, Manila, Baku, Bali, Istanbul, Colombo, Phuket, Kolkata, Jakarta, and Chennai, to name just a few.
احتفلت الخطوط الجوية القطرية بمرور خمسة أعوام على تشغيل رحلاتها المباشرة من الدوحة إلى صلالة في سلطنة عمان. واحتفلت القطرية بهذه المناسبة في يوم 15 مايو بإطلاق أقواس المياه الترحيبية في مطار صلالة الدولي.
وتعد مدينة صلالة وجهة مميزة في الخليج العربي، وتزخر بمزارع الفاكهة والشواطئ الجميلة والأسواق القديمة والمعالم الأثرية. وتشتهر صلالة باحتوائها على العديد من الأماكن الثقافية المميزة، بما في ذلك مدينة البليد – أحد مواقع التراث العالمي – حيث تضم آثارا تعود إلى القرن الثاني عشر، بالإضافة إلى متحف أرض اللبان الذي يمكن الزوّار من معرفة المزيد من المعلومات حول تاريخ تجارة اللبان قديماً في صلالة.
وقال سعادة السيد أكبر الباكر، الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية: “يسعدنا الاحتفال هذا الشهر بمرور خمسة أعوام على تدشين رحلاتنا إلى صلالة. وتعد صلالة إحدى الوجهات المميزة على شبكة وجهاتنا، حيث تمكن الزوّار من اكتشاف الأراضي الخضراء والطبيعة الخلابة لسلطنة عمان التي تستقطب العديد من المسافرين بغرض السياحة أو العمل. ونتطلع إلى نقل المزيد من المسافرين إلى عمان وإلى أكثر من 150 وجهة في شتى أنحاء العالم على شبكة وجهاتنا المتنامية”.
ودشنت القطرية رحلاتها إلى سلطنة عمان في عام 2000 عندما وصلت أولى رحلاتها إلى العاصمة العمانية مسقط. وفي عام 2013، أضافت القطرية صلالة إلى شبكة وجهاتها، ثم أطلقت رحلاتها في عام 2017 إلى صحار.
وبسبب الإقبال المرتفع على السفر إلى مختلف الوجهات في عمان، أعلنت الخطوط الجوية القطرية مؤخراً عن تشغيل رحلات إضافية إلى عمان في شهري أبريل ويونيو، ليرتفع عدد الرحلات الأسبوعية من الدوحة إلى سلطنة عمان إلى 70 رحلة، بما في ذلك 49 رحلة أسبوعياً إلى مسقط، و14 رحلة أسبوعياً إلى صلالة و7 رحلات أسبوعياً إلى صحار.
وسوف تساهم الرحلات الجديدة إلى عمان بتوفير المزيد من خيارات السفر للركاب من السلطنة إلى العديد من الوجهات حول العالم، بما في ذلك بانكوك وبيروت وكوالالمبور ولندن ومانيلا وباكو وبالي وإسطنبول وكولومبو وبوكيت وكولكاتا وجاكرتا وشيناي وغيرها الكثير.
