Ooredoo demonstrates future power of 5G technology at Amir Cup final

DOHA: To further demonstrate the potential of Ooredoo’s 5G technology, Ooredoo successfully showcased three futuristic applications designed to enhance the overall experience for selected spectators at Khalifa International Stadium during the final of the Amir Cup.

The applications, which in future will solely run on the Ooredoo 5G network, included an engagement platform to provide robust real-time video streaming, an augmented reality venue engagement solution and immersive VR based on high-performance Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC solutions).

MEC allows applications to be hosted closer to the edge of the network, therefore closer to subscribers, to efficiently use network resources and open up new opportunities for the delivery of compelling, tailored services in high-traffic locations. With this technology, video feeds can be efficiently broadcast to multiple subscribers’ devices simultaneously with millisecond latency.

Speaking about the demonstration, Waleed Al Sayed, Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo Qatar, said: “Last week Ooredoo became the first company in the world to launch 5G technology and we promised to further demonstrate the potential that this will bring for Qatar in the future. With Khalifa International Stadium set to host several Wold Cup 2022 matches, we believed the final of the Amir Cup was the perfect opportunity to showcase this state-of-the-art technology to the world, which in the very near future will be run seamlessly on the Ooredoo 5G network”.

At the event, Edge Video Orchestration allowed visitors to access live video streams of the game from different angles. As part of the solution, four 360-degree cameras were installed at various locations on the football pitch to capture action from multiple viewing angles. These cameras transmitted live video streaming of the game to the consumer devices enhancing the viewing experience.

The Immersive Virtual Reality (VR) solution enabled remote viewers to attend the match as if they were present in the stadium. In the future of digital venues, this solution will enable sports venues to serve their fans globally, by extending live views and data to fans, allowing them to join in the events virtually from remote locations around the world.

Finally, the Augmented Reality (AR) based navigation solution helped visitors to navigate and access different locations inside the stadium by combining a live view of the stadium with additional computer-generated elements rendered into the mobile device’s display.

The application could be used to navigate to spectator seats, parking spaces, or food & merchandise sections.

“Ooredoo’s 5G network is an important technological breakthrough for the telecommunications industry worldwide and we want to lead the way in roll-out and use-cases of this state-of-the-art technology. Ooredoo’s 5G Supernet deployment is currently underway and will begin by covering an area from The Pearl-Qatar to Hamad International Airport, with Lagoona, Katara Cultural Village, West Bay, the Corniche and Souq Waqif.

Access to the Ooredoo 5G Supernet will require a 5G compatible device, which is set to be available from 2019 world-wide.

أعلنت Ooredoo اليوم أنها استعرضت بنجاح ثلاثة تطبيقات وحلول عملية مستقبلية لتقنية الجيل الخامس 5G مصممة لتعزيز تجربة الجماهير أثناء حضورهم للمباريات، وذلك من خلال توفير هذه الحلول والتطبيقات لعدد من الجماهير التي حضرت المباراة النهائية لبطولة كأس الأمير التي أقيمت مؤخراً في إستاد خليفة الدولي.

وتضمنت التطبيقات الثلاثة، التي ستعمل مستقبلاً فقط عبر شبكة 5Gمن Ooredoo ، منصة رقمية تفاعلية تبث الفيديو بشكل فوري للجماهير، وحلاً آخر يتيح للجماهير مشاهدة الملعب والتفاعل معه بتقنية الواقع المعزز، بالإضافة لتجربة المشاهدة من خلال تقنية الواقع الافتراضي التي تعتمد على حلول حاسوبية متطورة ومتعددة الوصول.

وتتيح هذه الحلول إمكانية استضافة التطبيقات بسرعة أكبر عبر الشبكة، ما يسمح للمستخدمين بالاستفادة من الحلول والخدمات التقنية بفعالية وسرعة كبيرة في الأماكن المزدحمة أو التي تشهد تواجداً جماهيرياً كبيراً. ومن خلال هذه التكنولوجيا، يمكن بث وإرسال محتوى الفيديو بكفاءة كبيرة إلى عدد كبير من أجهزة المستخدمين في الوقت ذاته وبمعدل تأخير منخفض للغاية يصل إلى ميلي ثانية.

وفي هذا السياق، قال السيد وليد السيد، الرئيس التنفيذي لـOoredoo قطر: “بعد إنجازنا الكبير الذي حققناه الأسبوع الماضي بكوننا أول شركة اتصالات في العالم تطلق تقنية 5G، حرصنا على إظهار ما يمكن لهذه التقنية أن تحققه مستقبلاً من فوائد وتطبيقات عملية للمستخدمين في قطر. وبما أننا مقبلون على استضافة بطولة كأس العالم 2022 الذي ستقام بعض مبارياتها في إستاد خليفة الدولي، رأينا أن نهائي بطولة كأس الأمير المقام في هذا الإستاد يمثل فرصة رائعة لعرض جانب من تقنيات 5G المتطورة للعالم، والتي ستعمل بسرعة فائقة عبر شبكة 5G من Ooredoo خلال المستقبل القريب.”

وخلال نهائي بطولة كأس الأمير، أتاحت تقنية Edge Video Orchestration للجماهير إمكانية مشاهدة بث المباراة بشكل مباشر من خلال زوايا متعددة. وتم ذلك من خلال تثبيت 4 كاميرات متطورة تعمل بتقنية التصوير 360 درجة في أماكن متعددة من الملعب لتصوير المباراة من زوايا متعددة. وتنقل هذه الكاميرات محتوى الفيديو المباشر للمباراة إلى أجهزة الجماهير بسرعة كبيرة لتعزز من تجربة مشاهدتهم للمباراة.

وبالنسبة للحل المعتمد على تقنية الواقع الافتراضي، فقد أتاح للمستخدمين من غير المتواجدين في الملعب حضور المباراة مباشرة وكأنهم في قلب الحدث. ويعد هذا الحل جزءاً من الملاعب الرقمية والذكية، وسيتيح للجماهير حول العالم تجربة الدخول إلى الملاعب ومشاهدة المباريات أو الفعاليات من أماكن مختلفة حول العالم.

أما الحل المعتمد على تقنية الواقع المعزز، فقد ساعد الجماهير على استعراض أماكن مختلفة من الملعب بشكل مباشر عبر شاشات أجهزتهم الجوالة من خلال أدوات رقمية محوسبة. فعلى سبيل المثال، يمكن للمستخدم الحصول على بيانات تتعلق برقم مقعده ومكان اصطفاف سيارته ومعلومات عن الوجبات والسلع المتاحة في المتاجر والمطاعم داخل الملعب.
