Katara kicks off Ramadan volleyball tourney

DOHA: Katara Cultural Village is all set for the kickoff of the fourth edition of Katara Ramadan Beach Volleyball Championship 2018  which will see 15 teams compete. Organised by the Cultural Village Foundation Beach Management, the tournament is expected to attract huge crowds to witness the thrilling matches among the 15 teams comprising 90 players from different countries.

Three matches will be played every night to be held from 9pm until 11pm. The Championship’s opening match tonight will be between Jaoan team vs Duhail team. “This year’s edition of the Katara Ramadan Beach Volleyball Championship has upped the number of participating teams from 12 to 15 this year,” said Abdulrahman Yousef, tournament supervisor, adding there will be a daily raffle draw in which audience members can win valuable prizes.

The tournament is one of a number of attractions at Katara during Ramadan.

Meerat Ramadan, Katara’s Ramadan souq which opened 11 days before the start of the holy month, has been the major attraction at Katara drawing large number of people to its wide range of consumer products offered at attractive prices.

A number of Qatari companies have set up stalls at Meerat Ramadan selling products ranging from fruits and vegetables to meat and dairy to Qatari honey and Karak tea. They include Al Meera Consumer Goods Company, Widam Foods Company, Arab Qatari Company for Poultry Production and Dandy and Ghadeer, among others.

The vegetable stalls sell fresh products from Qatari farms, at prices lower than what is existing in the local market.

In addition, Katara has also lined up a variety of games and entertainment activities for children and families at Meerat Ramadan, a major feature of which is the Katara Play Station Championship 2018. Located in the southern area of Katara Cultural Village, Meerat Ramadan is open every day until June 20 from 8pm till 12am.

تنطلق اليوم الجمعة على شاطئ كتارا وللعام الرابع على التوالي، أولى منافسات بطولة كتارا الرمضانية لكرة الطائرة الشاطئية 2018، والتي تنظمها إدارة الشاطئ بالمؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي كتارا.

ويشارك في هذه البطولة 90 لاعباً من جميع الجنسيات، موزعين على 15 فريقاً. كما أن هناك ثلاث مباريات يومياً، تبدأ أولها الساعة التاسعة مساء بعد صلاة التراويح، كما تتبعها مباراتان الساعة العاشرة والحادية عشر مساء.

يلتقي فريق جوعان وفريق الدحيل في المباراة الافتتاحية للبطولة. كما يلعب فريق المنتزه ضد فريق المعمورة في المباراة الثانية لليوم الأول، ومن ثم فريق المرقاب ضد فريق الشرق في نهاية اليوم الأول للبطولة.

وقال المشرف على بطولة كتارا لكرة الطائرة الشاطئية، يوسف عبد الرحمن: إن البطولة -التي تنظم للسنة الرابعة على التوالي- تميزت بزيادة عدد الفرق من 12 فريقاً في السابق إلى 15 فريقاً في هذه النسخة. وأوضح أن المباريات لن تتوقف حتى في يوم الجمعة، وستقسم الفرق بين مجموعتين أولى وثانية. كما ذكّر اليد يوسف بأن هناك سحوبات يومية للجمهور خلال المباريات على جوائز قيمة.;
