Kahramaa and QEERI to work on energy efficiency

DOHA: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute (QEERI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) signed a two-year joint research collaboration agreement which will allow the two organisations to work together towards improving energy efficiency and conservation in Qatar.

The agreement was signed by Eng. Abdulaziz Al Hammadi, Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department Manager, Kahramaa, and Dr. Marc Vermeersch, Executive Director, QEERI at Kahramaa Awareness Park (KAP).

The agreement will enable Kahramaa to leverage QEERI’s technical and scientific expertise to work on developing new energy efficiency measures, tools, applications and standards for centralized air conditioning systems, building energy management schemes and building energy audit assessments.

The projected outcome from this research collaboration will provide Kahramaa with verified research data, analysis and recommendations for future energy efficiency policies and regulations.

Commenting on the agreement, Eng. Abdulaziz Al Hammadi said,”Through the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed”, Kahramaa disseminates the awareness, regulations and technologies related to energy efficiency and renewable energy. Therefore, we cooperate with all institutions and sectors in the country to achieve this goal.

The collaboration agreement between Kahramaa and Hamad Bin Khalifa University represented by the Qatar Institute for Environment and Energy (QEERI) is the best embodiment of this goal as the two parties seek to achieve sustainability in terms of energy and environmental improvement according to Qatar National Vision 2030.

The agreement includes conducting research studies within a number of Kahramaa stations to improve energy performance with respect to the Chillers. One of the expected results of the research study is to improve the performance of the energy efficiency of the stations in terms of cooling.

Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Vermeersch said: “We are delighted to collaborate with our national partners Kahramaa, and we are keen on using the technical expertise of our scientists to provide real-time and concrete research data which Kahramaa can use to improve Qatar’s energy efficiency.”

وقعت كل من المؤسسة العامة القطرية للكهرباء والماء «كهرماء»، وجامعة حمد بن خليفة؛ ممثلة في معهد قطر لبحوث البيئة والطاقة -أحد مراكز مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع- اتفاقية تعاون بحثي لمدة عامين، تقوم بموجبها الجهتان بالعمل معاً، من أجل تحسين كفاءة الطاقة والمحافظة عليها في دولة قطر.

وقد وقع الاتفاقية المهندس عبد العزيز الحمادي، مدير إدارة الترشيد وكفاءة الطاقة بـ «كهرماء»، والدكتور مارك فيرمييرش، المدير التنفيذي لمعهد قطر لبحوث البيئة والطاقة، في حديقة «كهرماء» للتوعية، بحضور عدد من المسؤولين من الجانبين.

وبموجب الاتفاقية، ستتمكن «كهرماء» من الاستفادة من الخبرة التقنية والعلمية لمعهد قطر لبحوث البيئة والطاقة، للعمل على تطوير إجراءات وتقنيات جديدة للطاقة وكفاءتها في التطبيقات ومعايير للتكييف المركزي، وبناء خطط إدارة الطاقة، وبناء تقييمات تدقيق الطاقة، بما يتيح لـ «كهرماء» بيانات بحث محققة، وتوصيات لسياسات ولوائح كفاءة الطاقة المستقبلية.

توعية

وتعليقاً على هذه الاتفاقية، قال المهندس عبدالعزيز الحمادي: «تعمل كهرماء -من خلال البرنامج الوطني للترشيد وكفاءة الطاقة (ترشيد)- على نشر التوعية واللوائح والتقنيات الخاصة بتطبيقات كفاءة الطاقة والطاقة المتجددة، وعليه نتعاون مع كل المؤسسات والقطاعات بالدولة لتحقيق هذا الهدف. وهذه الاتفاقية بين كهرماء وجامعة حمد بن خليفة، ممثلة في معهد قطر للبيئة والطاقة (QEERI)، تمثل خير تجسيد لهذا الهدف، حيث يسعى الطرفان إلى تحقيق الاستدامة فيما يتعلق بالطاقة وتحسين البيئة، وفقاً لرؤية قطر 2030. وتشمل الاتفاقية إجراء دراسة بحثية داخل عدد من محطات كهرماء، لتحسين أداء الطاقة فيما يتعلق بالمبردات الموجودة في المحطات Chillers. ومن النتائج المتوقعة للدراسة البحثية تحسين أداء كفاءة الطاقة بالمحطات فيما يتعلق بالتبريد، وسيتم تعميم التجربة في حالة إثبات الدراسة لهذه النتائج».

وتعليقاً على هذه الشراكة، قال الدكتور مارك فيرميرش: «نحن سعداء بالتعاون مع شركائنا الوطنيين في كهرماء، وحريصون على استخدام الخبرة التقنية لعلمائنا، من أجل تقديم بيانات بحثية واقعية، وفي الوقت الحقيقي يمكن أن تستخدمها كهرماء لتحسين كفاءة واستخدام الطاقة. هذه هي الخطوة الأولى في شراكتنا مع كهرماء، ويتطلع معهد قطر لبحوث البيئة والطاقة إلى العمل بشكل وثيق مع كهرماء عبر جوانب مختلفة، للعمل من أجل هدف مشترك يتمثل في مساعدة قطر على مواجهة التحدي الكبير لأمن الطاقة لديها».;
