493 Visitors to CRA Awareness Pavilion at Qatar Mall

CRA World Consumers Rights Day event focuses on public awareness

The Communications Regulatory Authority’s (CRA) public outreach event to celebrate World Consumer Rights day under the theme “Better Digital World” concluded yesterday. The event was held at Mall of Qatar from March 14 and aimed to raise awareness about telecom consumers’ rights and responsibilities.

During the event, CRA surveyed 493 visitors. The results indicate that 49 percent of respondents were aware that they have the right to lodge a telecom complaint to CRA if their telecom service provider did not resolve their lodged complaint. Also 56 percent of respondents said that they have faced a fraud attempt via telephone calls, SMS messages or social media and have been asked to disclose personal information related to their telecom or bank accounts. However, 78 percent confirmed that they had the appropriate awareness not to disclose the information.

“During the event, we have noticed an increase in visitors’ awareness about the importance of being aware of their rights and responsibilities as telecom consumers. CRA ensures to balance the rights of consumers with the needs of service providers, consumers’ awareness of their rights and responsibilities contributes to the development of the sector, by encouraging telecom service providers to provide the best competitive services towards consumers’ satisfaction,” said Eng. Faisal Ali Al Shuaibi (pictured), Public Relations & Communications Manager, CRA.

The event also included a range of awareness activities for kids and adults, and CRA’s team provided visitors with awareness tips on different topics related to telecom services such as international roaming, bills, and scam SMS messages and calls.

The CRA team talked to visitors about CRA’s role, public services and telecom complaint process, in addition, visitors were able to lodge their complaints onsite.

اختتمت هيئة تنظيم الاتصالات أمس، فعاليتها التوعوية التي أقامتها في «قطر مول» في الفترة الممتدة بين 14 و17 مارس 2019، تحت شعار «عالم رقمي أفضل»، وبهدف تعريف مستهلكي خدمات الاتصالات بحقوقهم ومسؤولياتهم.

أجرت الهيئة خلال الفعالية استبياناً، وشارك فيه 493 زائراً، وتبين من النتائج أن 49 % من الزوار كانوا على علم بأن أحد حقوقهم كمستهلكين لخدمات الاتصالات هو إمكانية تقديم شكوى للهيئة، في حال أن شركات الاتصالات لم تقم بتسوية شكواهم التي قدموها، كما ذكر 56 % من الزوار المشاركين، أنهم تعرضوا من قبل لمحاولة احتيال استهدفت أخذ معلومات شخصية منهم عن حساب الاتصالات الخاص بهم أو حسابهم البنكي، وذلك من خلال المكالمات الهاتفية أو عبر الرسائل النصية القصيرة أو عبر مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، ولكن في المقابل أكد 78 % منهم، أنهم كان لديهم الوعي الكافي حتى لا يعطوا الأشخاص المحتالين البيانات التي طلبوها.

وفي هذا السياق، قال المهندس فيصل علي الشعيبي مدير العلاقات العامة والاتصال بالهيئة: «لاحظنا خلال الفعالية زيادة في وعي الزوار بأهمية أن يكونوا على معرفة بحقوقهم ومسؤولياتهم كمستهلكين لخدمات الاتصالات.

فالهيئة من جانبها تحرص دائماً على تحقيق التوازن بين حقوق المستهلكين واحتياجات شركات الاتصالات، إن التزام المستهلكين بتطبيق مسؤولياتهم ومعرفة حقوقهم يساهم في تطوير القطاع، وذلك من خلال تشجيع شركات الاتصالات على زيادة جهودها نحو تقديم أفضل الخدمات التنافسية، وصولاً إلى إرضاء مستخدمي خدمات الاتصالات».

تضمنت الفعالية أيضاً أنشطة توعوية مخصصة للأطفال والكبار، وتواجد فريق مختص من الهيئة لتقديم نصائح توعوية حول مواضيع متعلقة بخدمات الاتصالات مثل التجوال الدولي، والفواتير، والمكالمات والرسائل الاحتيالية، وتمكن زوار الجناح من معرفة مزيد من المعلومات عن دور الهيئة والخدمات التي تقدمها لهم، والتعرف على إجراءات تقديم الشكاوى، بالإضافة إلى تقديم شكواهم للهيئة بشكل مباشر أثناء الفعالية.
