Philippines Imposes US Travel Restriction Amid New Coronavirus Variant

Manila: The Philippine authorities announced Friday a temporary ban on entry for foreigners coming from the United States of America, as part of their efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 new variant.
“The Office of the President, upon the joint recommendation of the Department of Health and the Department of Foreign Affairs, included the United States of America (US) as among the countries subject to travel restrictions,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement Friday.
He pointed out that Filipinos coming from countries on the ban list (which includes 20 countries in addition to the US) will also be allowed to return home, but they will also have to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine in a government-approved facility.
Earlier, the Philippine government banned entry to foreign visitors from 20 countries in which cases of infection with the new variant were recorded, namely Britain, South Africa, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, the Israeli entity, Hong Kong, Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Singapore, Lebanon, Japan, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Australia, France, Iceland and South Korea

مانيلا: أعلنت السلطات الفلبينية، يوم الأمس، حظرا مؤقتا على دخول الأجانب القادمين من الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، وذلك في إطار جهودها لمنع انتشار السلالة الجديدة من فيروس كورونا في البلاد.
وقال السيد هاري روك المتحدث باسم الرئاسة الفلبينية إن قرار الحظر سيسري من الثالث إلى الخامس عشر من يناير الجاري.. مضيفا أنه سيتم السماح للركاب الذين كانوا في رحلات ترانزيت إلى الولايات المتحدة قبل سريان الحظر بدخول الفلبين، لكن سيتعين عليهم الخضوع لحجر صحي لمدة 14 يوما في منشأة معتمدة من الحكومة، حتى لو أظهروا نتائج سالبة لفحص كورونا.
وأشار إلى أنه سيتم كذلك السماح للفلبينيين القادمين من البلدان المدرجة عل قائمة الحظر (التي تضم 20 دولة إضافة إلى الولايات المتحدة) بالعودة إلى الوطن ولكن سيتعين عليهم أيضا الخضوع للحجر الصحي في منشأة معتمدة من الحكومة لمدة 14 يوما.
وحظرت الحكومة الفلبينية في وقت سابق دخول الزوار الأجانب من 20 دولة تم تسجيل حالات إصابة بالسلالة الجديدة فيها، هي بريطانيا وجنوب إفريقيا وسويسرا وإيطاليا والدنمارك والكيان الإسرائيلي وهونغ كونغ وإسبانيا وأيرلندا وهولندا وسنغافورة ولبنان واليابان وكندا وألمانيا والسويد وأستراليا وفرنسا وأيسلندا وكوريا الجنوبية.
