اكتشاف فيروس جديد في خفافيش بريطانيا
Doha: Researchers have found a new coronavirus similar to the emerging Coronavirus in British bats, Times magazine has revealed.
In a report on Monday, al-Jazeera reported that the new virus had been found in the droppings of a bat from a small horseshoe species in Britain.
“The virus cannot be transmitted to humans in its current form,” experts at the British Public Health Authority and the Zoological Society were quoted as saying, noting that there were health risks if bats carrying the detected virus were infected with the Coronavirus.
The discovery of the new virus came at the hands of ecology student Ivana Murphy, 22, who collected bat waste as part of her senior’s graduation letter, the source said.
The student and her team managed to catch 53 bats using traps and nets, and their feces was collected in sterile bags before the bats were released again.
Coronaviruses has originated from animals, i.e. they are transmitted between animals and humans.
Detailed research has concluded that SARS-CoV has been transmitted from civet cats to humans, and SARS CoV 2 may have originated among bats, but scientists believe the virus has gone from an intermediate animal to humans.
الدوحة: كشفت صحيفة “التايمز” البريطانية أن باحثين عثروا على فيروس تاجي جديد مشابه لفيروس كورونا المستجد، في خفافيش بريطانية.
وذكرت الصحيفة – في تقرير لها يوم الإثنين بحسب موقع “الجزيرة”، أنه تم العثور على الفيروس الجديد في فضلات أحد الخفافيش من فصيلة (حدوة الحصان الصغيرة) في بريطانيا.
ونقلت عن خبراء في هيئة الصحة البريطانية العامة وجمعية علم الحيوان قولهم إنه “لا يمكن انتقال الفيروس إلى البشر في صيغته الحالية”، فيما أشاروا إلى ثمة مخاطر صحية في حال أصيبت الخفافيش التي تحمل الفيروس المكتشف بفيروس كورونا.
ويعود فضل اكتشاف الفيروس الجديد إلى الطالبة الجامعية في علم البيئة، إيفانا مورفي (22 عامًا) التي جمعت فضلات الخفافيش كجزء من رسالة تخرجها في السنة الأخيرة، حسب المصدر ذاته.
وتمكنت الطالبة وفريقها من اصطياد 53 خفاشًا باستخدام الفخاخ والشباك، وتم جمع فضلاتها في أكياس معقمة قبل إطلاق سراح الخفافيش مرة أخرى.
وفيروسات كورونا حيوانية المنشأ، أي أنها تنتقل بين الحيوانات والبشر.
وقد خلصت الأبحاث المفصلة إلى أن فيروس كورونا المسبب لمرض سارس (SARS-CoV) قد انتقل من قطط الزباد إلى البشر، ومن المحتمل أن يكون فيروس (سارس كوف 2) قد نشأ بين الخفافيش، لكن علماء يعتقدون أن الفيروس انتقل من حيوان وسيط إلى البشر.
