DOHA: Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) has welcomed a procession of ships from participating navies, including Bangladesh, India, Italy, Oman, Pakistan, UK and USA.
The ships docked at Hamad Port, one of the Middle East’s largest ports, enabling a selection of the world’s largest seafaring ships to harbour at its state-of-the-art facilities. DIMDEX has now received more than 80 warships since its first edition in 2008.
The visiting warships are eleven in total including, the Qatari Fast attack craft HUWAR (Q05), Destroyer INS KOLKATA, the lead ship of the Kolkata-class stealth guided-missile destroyers of the Indian Navy, Frigate BNS BANGABANDHU which is a guided missile frigate of the Bangladesh Navy, and is one of the most modern currently in service, and Frigate CARLO MARGOTTINI from Italy.
US navy is participating with three warships, Destroyer USS SAMPSON (DDG-102), an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer in the United States Navy, and two Navy special mission patrol vessel MK VI which are class of patrol boats in service.
Also displaying two of its warships, The Royal Navy of the UK will display Bay-class landing ship dock RFA CARDIGAN BAY of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, and two Hunt – mine countermeasures vessel HMS MIDDLETON, which is a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel. Among the warships also is the Fast attack craft (patrol vessel) KASSAB from Oman, and Fast attack missile craft PNS HIMMAT and Maritime Patrol Vessel PMSS BASOL from Pakistan.
The arrival of the warships is one of the key elements of the leading three-day maritime defence event, as navies from around the world get to display their latest vessels and showcase their capabilities in protecting trading routes, borders and shorelines. This year, DIMDEX and Hamad Port welcomed international vessels and provided exhibitors and visitors with the opportunity to explore modern naval warships, and meet with the respective leaders and crew.
Marking its 10th anniversary this year, the official opening ceremony for DIMDEX 2018 will take place today at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) under the patronage of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The event is hosted and organised by Qatar Armed Forces over the next three days (12-14 March).

Away from Hamad Port, a pre-show press conference was held at the Qatar National Convention Centre, where the exhibition component of DIMDEX 2018 will be staged. A panel from the Organising Committee briefed international, local and trade media on the different components of the show, including the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC) taking place tomorrow.
As a leading event in the global maritime defence and security industry calendar and a prominent large-scale event for Qatar, DIMDEX introduces businesses to key procurement decision makers where they can explore the latest state-of-the-art technologies; and the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC) discussing pressing industry trends with academic and military speakers; the VIP Delegations for exhibitors to access key stakeholders; and the Visiting Warships.
وصلت مجموعة من السفن الحربية إلى قطر ضمن فعاليات معرض ومؤتمر الدوحة الدولي للدفاع البحري (ديمدكس) من كل من بنغلادش والهند وإيطاليا وعُمان وباكستان والمملكة المتحدة والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. ورست هذه السفن في ميناء حمد، أحد أكبر الموانئ في الشرق الأوسط، الذي يستقبل أكبر سفن الملاحة البحرية في العالم في مرافقه الحديثة. وقد استقبل ديمدكس حتى الآن أكثر من 80 سفينة حربية منذ النسخة الأولى للمعرض في عام 2008.
رحبت القوات البحرية الأميرية القطرية، المستضيفة والمنظمة للمعرض بالسفن التي وصلت. ويعدّ وصول السفن الحربية أحد العناصر الرئيسية للحدث الرائد، ويبلغ عددها في هذه النسخة السادسة إحدى عشرة سفينة من ضمنها سفينة الهجوم السريع القطرية HUWAR (Q05) السفينة الحربية INS KOLKATAالتي تحمل أنظمة دفاع مضادة للصواريخ من البحرية الهندية، وفرقاطة الصواريخ الموجهة BNS BANGABANDHU من البحرية البنغالية التي تعدّ واحدة من الأكثر السفن حداثة حالياً، والفرقاطة CARLO MARGOTTINI من إيطاليا. وتشارك البحرية الأمريكية بثلاث سفن حربية وهما المدمرة USS SAMPSON (DDG-102) من طراز ارليه بورك، وزورقا الدوريات الخاصة من طراز MK VI.
وتشارك البحرية الملكية البريطانية بثلاث من السفن الحربية هما السفينة RFA CARDIGAN BAY من الاسطول الملكي، واثنتين من مضادات الألغام HMS MIDDLETON. ومن بين السفن الحربية أيضا سفينة الهجوم السريع KASSAB من عمان، وسفينة الهجوم السريع المحملة بالصواريخ PNS HIMMAT وقارب الدوريات البحري PMSS BASOL من باكستان.
وتستمر زيارة السفن الحربية في ميناء حمد لمدة ثلاثة أيام، حيث تقوم العديد من القوات البحرية من مختلف الدول بالمشاركة في أحدث سفنها وعرض قدراتها في حماية طرق التجارة والحدود والشواطئ.
