Who Are More Likely to Be Reinfected with Covid-19?

Doha: People over the age of 65 who have recovered from covid-19 have a 50% higher chance of being reinfected within six months of their first covid-19 infection, according to a new study.

The Danish study, published in the Lancet medical journal, shows that the odds are much better for younger and healthier people, but it is still uncertain, according to Russia Today.

According to the study, which included 4,000 people who underwent testing, about 80% of healthy people under the age of 65 did not develop a second infection within six months of their first Covid-19 infection.

The study shows that it is still important for people who have recovered from covid-19 to get the immunity boost provided by vaccines – and to continue wearing face masks, wash their hands and adhere to social distancing protocols.

“Our study confirms what appears to be the infection of a number of people with” Covid-19 “is rare in younger and healthy people, but the elderly are more likely to catch it again.” said Dr. Steen Ethelberg of the Statens Serum Institute in Denmark.

“Given that the elderly are also more likely to have severe symptoms, our findings illustrate how important it is to implement policies to protect older people during the epidemic,” Ethelberg wrote. “Given what is at stake, the results underscore how important it is for people to implement policies to protect older people during the epidemic.”
