MME pavilion at Beijing exhibition attracts over half a million visitors

Doha: Qatar’s pavilion at the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 Beijing, capital of China has attracted over half a million visitors since its opening on April 29.

Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) said in a statement that about 15,000 people including a number of senior officials and high profile Chinese citizens have visited the pavilion on daily basis. A dedicated team of young Qatari staff from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment are running the pavilion and receiving guests and visitors.

They got special training in preparation of the International Horticultural Exhibition 2021 in Doha. The team includes Mohammed Al Shawi from Al Wakra Municipality, Khalid Al Sindi from Public Parks Department, Mohammed Abbas from Doha Municipality in addition to other groups of cadres.

Mohammed Al Shawi, in-charge Qatar’s pavilion in Beijing Expo said that most of the visitors of the exhibition are keen to visit Qatar’s Pavilion for excellence and being the largest in size after the Chinese pavilion.

Qatar’s pavilion, inspired from the Sidra tree, is built on a total area of 2,100 square meters. It is designed by Qatari engineer Fatima Fawzi.

Many dignitaries such as provincial governors, Beijing mayor and vice governor visited Qatar’s pavilion. Qatar’s pavilion showcases Qatar’s experience in horticulture, agriculture, agricultural solutions and green development.

Qatar’s experience in urban development, it’s culture and history, Qatar National Vision 2030 are also being showcased at the pavalion. Qatar’s pavilion also highlights preparations of Qatar for hosting the International Horticultural Exhibition 2021 in Doha and 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The pavilion also attracts schoolchildren as it has a children’s garden where they receive gifts comprising story and a coloring book about the desert flower translated into Chinese language and T-shirt with ‘Qatar 2022’.

ويقوم فريق من الكوادر القطرية الشابة من موظفي وزارة البلدية والبيئة بإدارة وتشغيل الجناح واستقبال الضيوف والزوار حيث يتم تأهيلهم وتدريبهم استعداداً للمعرض الدولي للبستنة (إكسبو 2021 )بالدوحة، ويضم الفريق كلا من السيد محمد الشاوي، بلدية الوكرة، خالد السندي، إدارة الحدائق العامة، محمد عباس، بلدية الدوحة.
