Suspect Arrested in theft of Van Gogh and Hals Paintings

The Hague: Dutch police arrested yesterday a 58-year-old man suspected of stealing paintings by Dutch painters Vincent van Gogh and Frans Hals from two museums in the Netherlands
In a statement, however, the police noted that the two paintings, entitled “The Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring” by van Gogh and “Two laughing boys” by Hals were not found.
The suspect, from Baarn in the central Netherlands, was arrested at his home, according to the police, who described the arrest as an “important stage” in the investigation.
“Intensive investigations were conducted for months, after the two paintings were stolen, under the administration of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which led to the arrest of the suspect”. The police said.

لاهاي: أوقفت الشرطة الهولندية أمس رجلًا يبلغ 58 عامًا يُشتبه في سرقته العام الماضي لوحتين للرسّامين الهولنديين فينسنت فان جوخ وفرانز هالز من مُتحفين في هولندا.
غير أن الشرطة أشارت في بيان إلى عدم العثور على العملين اللذين يحملان عنواني «حديقة القسيس في نيونيين في الربيع» أو اختصارًا «حديقة الربيع» لفان جوخ، و«صبيّان يضحكان» لهانز. وأوقف المُشتبه به المُتحدّر من بارن في وسط هولندا، في منزله، وفق الشرطة التي وصفت التوقيف بأنه «مرحلة مُهمة» في التحقيق.
وقالت الشرطة: «أُجريت تحقيقات مُكثفة على مدى أشهر عن سرقة اللوحتين تحت إدارة النيابة العامة، ما قاد إلى توقيف المُشتبه به».
