Sheikha Hind: Qatar will come back stronger from coronavirus challenge

Qatar’s proven resilience and ability to overcome challenges will see it emerge “even stronger” from the global coronavirus crisis, H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani (pictured), Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, has said.

The worldwide COVID-19 outbreak has led to nations taking sweeping precautionary measures in an attempt to prevent the virus spreading. With the safety and wellbeing of its own community and the wider public being its top priority, Qatar Foundation’s (QF) steps have included closing its public facilities and programmes at Education City and cancelling forthcoming events, with school and university classes also being suspended across the country.

Amid the adjustments to daily life that COVID-19 has created, H E Sheikha Hind said positivity, proactivity, and a determination to find solutions are already characterising Qatar’s response to the virus, with the nation’s sense of readiness and togetherness putting it in the best position to address the challenges the virus poses.

“Life is a little overwhelming right now, but we’ve been preparing for a day like this,” she said. “We can, and we will, step up to the challenge.

“The stories I’ve been hearing are heartwarming. Teachers thinking of ways to keep our children motivated, our teams at QF ensuring third-party vendors are not affected, scientists and researchers offering their support to our government agencies.

“Please know that we are being cautious not out of fear, but out of a sense of responsibility to protect the most vulnerable and to not burden our health services. As a nation, we have proven to be resilient in the past, and I have no doubt that we will come out of this even stronger.”

Among the measures taken by QF is the activation of tried-and-tested remote working processes for many of its staff, ensuring its core operations continue while reflecting that public health and wellbeing is of paramount importance to the organisation. 

H E Sheikha Hind said steps such as these can ultimately be more than a precautionary response to a health crisis, by helping to shape innovative working practices that continue into the future.

“This is our opportunity to redesign the future workplace,” she said. “With the right mindset, we can increase productivity and reinvent the way we work in the long run.”

 أكدّت سعادة الشيخة هند بنت حمد آل ثاني، نائب رئيس مجلس إدارة مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع والرئيس التنفيذي للمؤسسة، أن دولة قطر أثبتت مجددًا جاهزيتها في التعامل مع التحديات، ما سيُمكنها من تخطي أزمة فيروس كورونا المستجد العالمية (كوفيد-19)، والخروج منها أقوى من ذي قبل.

وأوضحت سعادتها في بيان صادر عن المؤسسة أنه في خِضَم ما تسبب به فيروس كورونا (كوفيد-19) من تغيّرات على نمط الحياة اليوميّة، فإن استجابة دولة قطر لهذا التحدي الصحي تتميّز بالإيجابية، وباتخاذ الإجراءات الاستباقية، والعزم على إيجاد الحلول المناسبة، كما أن جاهزية دولة قطر واستعدادها، إضافة إلى التكاتف بين القطاعات والجهود الجماعية، وضعها في أفضل موقع للتعامل مع التحديات التي تفرضها هذه الأزمة.

وقالت سعادة الشيخة هند بنت حمد آل ثاني: على الرغم من الظروف القاهرة التي نمرّ بها اليوم، إلا أننا مستعدون للتعامل معها، على قدر التحدي.. في الحقيقة إن القصص التي أسمعها تطمئن القلب وتسرّه، معلمون ومعلمات يفكرون بطرق لإبقاء أبنائنا متقدين حماسًا لطلب العلم وتحصيله.. فريقنا في مؤسسة قطر الذي يحرص على ألا يتأثر مزوّدو خدماتنا الخارجيّة بما نمرّ به.. علماء وباحثون يعرضون خدماتهم ودعمهم لتخطي هذا التحدي.

وتابعت بالقول: «الدافع لهذا الحرص ليس الخوف بل هو شعورنا بالمسؤولية عن أبناء المؤسسة وصحتهم التي تفوق أي أولوية أخرى، وحرصًا منا على عدم إرهاق خدماتنا ومؤسساتنا الصحيّة قدر الإمكان.. كشعب، فقد أثبتنا في السنوات الماضية مدى مرونتنا وحكمتنا في المواقف الصعبة، لذا فأنا على يقين بأننا سنخرج من هذه المحنة أقوى من ذي قبل.

وأوضحت نائب رئيس مجلس إدارة مؤسسة قطر أن مثل هذه الخطوات تُعد أكثر من مجرد إجراءات احترازيّة لمواجهة أزمة صحيّة، فهي بمثابة فرصة لصياغة وابتكار ممارسات عمل جديدة في المستقبل.

وأضافت: هذه هي فرصتنا لنُعيد تشكيل مكان العمل المستقبلي.. فبعزيمتنا نستطيع رفع إنتاجيتنا وإعادة تصميم طريقة إدارة عملنا على المدى البعيد.

واتخذت دولة قطر إجراءات احترازيّة شاملة في محاولة للحدّ من مدى انتشار فيروس كورونا المستجد (كوفيد-19). وانطلاقًا من حرص مؤسسة قطر على صحة مجتمعها وسلامة أفراده كأولوية، شملت الإجراءات التي اتخذتها المؤسسة إغلاق مرافقها العامة، وتعليق البرامج المجتمعية بالمدينة التعليميّة، وإلغاء الفعاليات التي كان من المقرّر عقدها، إلى جانب تعليق الدراسة في الفصول الدراسية بمدارس المؤسسة وجامعاتها الشريكة وجامعة حمد بن خليفة، كما هو الحال في سائر أنحاء الدولة.

ومن الإجراءات التي اتخذتها مؤسسة قطر كذلك تفعيل نظام العمل عن بُعد الذي أثبت فاعليته للعديد من موظفيها، بما يضمن استمرارية عملياتها الرئيسيّة، ويعكس مدى أهمية الصحة العامّة والرفاه القصوى بالنسبة للمؤسسة.
