QF and Boeing launch STEM program for Qatari youth

Doha: The Education Development Institute (EDI), part of Qatar Foundation’s Pre-University Education (PUE), and Boeing have collaborated to introduce an interactive program focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The program, titled the ‘Curiosity Machine to Qatar,’ will target children in Grades 3 through 5. The Curiosity Machine program, created by US-based non-profit Iridescent, teaches STEM learning through hands-on engineering design challenges, each of which presents fundamental science or engineering concepts and asks students to use simple materials to come up with possible solutions.

EDI enabled the training of 16 teachers from several academies under Qatar Foundation. Two expert educators from Iridescent traveled from the US to deliver the training, bringing to life examples of the design challenges and principles of engineering design processes. Additionally, teachers used online resources to access a large suite of design challenges to utilize with their students. The training will allow nearly 200 students to benefit from this innovative program for this academic year.

أعلن معهد التطوير التربوي -جزء من التعليم ما قبل الجامعي في مؤسسة قطر- بالتعاون مع شركة بوينج، عن إطلاق برنامج تفاعلي في قطر يركّز على تعليم العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات «STEM»، تحت اسم «محرك الابتكار – Curiosity Machine».

ويستهدف هذا البرنامج التعليمي الأطفال في الصفوف الدراسية من الصف الثالث حتى الخامس. ويعمل برنامج «محرك الابتكار» -الذي أطلقته مؤسسة «أيروديسنت» الأميركية غير الربحية- على تعليم العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات، من خلال تحديات عملية في مجال التصميم الهندسي، يوفر كل منها مفاهيم أساسية في العلوم والهندسة، ويدفع الطلاب إلى استخدام مواد بسيطة للتوصل إلى حلول ممكنة.

وسبق لمعهد التطوير التربوي أن وفر تدريباً لـ 16 معلماً من عدة مؤسسات أكاديمية تابعة لمؤسسة قطر، من خلال خبراء مؤسسة «أيروديسنت»، الذين قدّموا أمثلة على تحديات التصميم، ومبادئ عملية التصميم الهندسي. وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، جرى تزويد المعلمين بمواد عبر الإنترنت، للوصول إلى مجموعة كبيرة من تحديات التصميم، لاستخدامها مع طلابهم. وسوف يسمح هذا التدريب لنحو 200 طالب بالاستفادة من هذا البرنامج المبتكر خلال العام الدراسي الحالي.

وفي معرض تعليقها على البرنامج، قالت السيدة بثينة علي النعيمي، رئيس التعليم ما قبل الجامعي في مؤسسة قطر: «نحن فخورون بتعاوننا مع شركة بوينج التي قدمت منهجاً مبتكراً لتعزيز تعليم العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات في المدارس، من خلال برنامج محرك الابتكار». وأعربت عن أن هذه «الشراكات سوف تثري تجربة التعلم بالنسبة الطلاب، وسوف تلهم القيادات المستقبلية».

بدوره، قال برنارد دان، رئيس شركة بوينج الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا وتركيا: «نحن نؤمن بأن القوى العاملة الموهوبة هي أساس أي مؤسسة أو دولة ناجحة». وأضاف: من خلال الاستثمار والتعليم عالي الجودة، نرغب في تمكين جيل جديد من أصحاب الرؤية، الذين يتمتعون بقدرات في مجالات العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات».;
