Qatar’s Attractiveness to Foreign Investors: A Look at Inbound Remittances

Doha: The latest data from the Central Bank of Qatar has revealed that the value of inbound remittances to Qatar in the first six months of the current year reached 6.15 billion Qatari Riyals, reflecting a remarkable increase of 111% when compared to the same period last year. This highlights Qatar’s transformation into a prominent destination for foreign investment, as non-Qatari investors focus on capitalizing on opportunities presented by various sectors and markets in Doha.

Qatar is actively seeking to double foreign projects in Doha in the coming years as part of its 2030 vision to diversify income sources and reduce reliance on financial revenues from liquefied natural gas exports.

Earlier statistics also indicated a 0.3% increase in the value of remittances by workers in Qatar to foreign countries during the first half of 2023, reaching 22.22 billion Qatari Riyals. These remittances by workers in Qatar represent approximately 67% of total outbound remittances, which amounted to 33.1 billion Qatari Riyals at the end of the first half of the current year.

Qatar hosts over 2.2 million foreign workers across various productive sectors, with construction, general services, and retail being the most prominent. Asian laborers constitute the majority of expatriate workers in the Gulf state.

الدوحة: كشفت أحدث البيانات من مصرف قطر المركزي أن قيمة التحويلات الوافدة إلى قطر في الستة أشهر الأولى من العام الحالي بلغت 6.15 مليار ريال قطري، مسجلة زيادة ملحوظة بنسبة 111% عند مقارنتها بنفس الفترة من العام الماضي. وهذا يؤكد على تحول قطر إلى وجهة بارزة للاستثمار الأجنبي، حيث يركز المستثمرون غير القطريين على استغلال الفرص المتاحة في مختلف القطاعات والأسواق في الدوحة.

تسعى قطر بنشاط إلى مضاعفة المشاريع الأجنبية في الدوحة خلال السنوات القادمة كجزء من رؤيتها لعام 2030 لتنويع مصادر الدخل والحد من الاعتماد على إيرادات الغاز الطبيعي المسال.

كما أشارت الإحصائيات السابقة إلى زيادة بنسبة 0.3% في قيمة تحويلات العاملين في قطر إلى الخارج خلال النصف الأول من عام 2023، حيث بلغت 22.22 مليار ريال قطري. وتمثل هذه التحويلات من قبل العاملين في قطر نحو 67% تقريبًا من إجمالي التحويلات الصادرة، التي بلغت 33.1 مليار ريال قطري في نهاية النصف الأول من العام الجاري.

تستضيف قطر أكثر من 2.2 مليون عامل أجنبي في مختلف القطاعات الإنتاجية، وتبرز قطاعات البناء والخدمات العامة والتجزئة بوصفها الأكثر بروزًا. والعمال الآسيويين يشكلون الغالبية العظمى من العمال الوافدين في الدولة الخليجية.
